Probably has something to do with the fact that they have had a go as a joint venture – crashed and burned. Also a couple of go-it-alone attempts that didn’t get on the starting grid.
Perth Bears launched as V'landys blasts 'biased ... clickbait' paper's front page
Certainly not in terms of passing on the Rugba League gene.
Modesty is nothing to boast about: Nominations for Two-Bob Lair Hall of Fame now open
I’ve often wondered if calling an effective legs tackle “dominant” and so allowing a short hold down can help the situation. Sure it’s not dominant as in monstering the ball carrier to the ground, but looking at the effect of quickly stopping an opponent, it could be rewarded that way – provided “flops” are immediately sanctioned – one of my pet peevs.
NRL News: Bulldog denies target area the problem with high shots, Panthers need a 25-year first, Hasler slams sin-bin spree
Yes. In any event Cleary often switched left & his right-to-left pass is as good as the rest of his game.
The crucial selection calls Daley must nail to have any hope of Origin redemption
You may have not read much NRL press coverage, then. The 24-7 news cycle with it’s need to capture a slice an attention span deprived audience has been in a skwarking overdrive for years. That’s without mentioning talking heads on TV, who in any event are employed by one of the two main press corporations. The only thing they all seem to agree upon is that the chairman & CEO have done a great job financially.
A rookie coach for a home World Cup at 61? It might work for the Wallabies, but here's why it probably won't
Maybe the Asian Red Panda? I would have preferred a WA Reds Team. But that wasn’t going to happen. I’ll pick and choose some matches to attend – and continue in The Sea of Blue. I think the Nth Sydney factor will deter a significant number of rusted on NRL fans from full membership.
'Pretty f--king happy!' Bears on brink of return as NRL and WA government come to terms, inaugural coach firming
The last Reds u-17 team of 1997 played in the SL GF for their age group. They beat Canberra away then lost to the Bronx in Qld. There was a good list of players who made NRL for years after that and the WA Reds had an SG Ball team up until COVID hit. The stocks are way lower now but if the NRL prioritises development as they have in the east under PVL & Abdo that should improve.

What for 3 years you and your family got comps? You’re not one of Lord Ted’s mob are you? We’ve only your word for that anyway. 1995 Avg was 13,500; ’96 – 8200; ’97 – 8500 – from published AFL charts funnily enough.

The Reds home crowds actually averaged 10,500-ish. I was at most of them. If they get some success they’ll probably do way better since the ES expat population has grown a lot in the intervening 30 years.

In any event it’s apples & oranges. Utoikamanu went because of Melbourne’s unparalleled record of turning journeyman forwards into internationals. Rylesy might make an outstanding coach but his CV right now is defense and forwards. Marshall, Luai, Koroisau? No comment needed.
Why Galvin’s reason for leaving Tigers doesn’t pass the sniff test
It was an indicative performance by Chammas on 100% the other night. Began with feigned criticism of Moses’s handling of this. Gradually became more strident in his description of the situation becoming more and more untenable. Was getting not much out of the others so changed tack and tried to get a bite out of Gus on talking to Galvin. Got nowhere fast.
Why Galvin’s reason for leaving Tigers doesn’t pass the sniff test
That is a fact. I’ve never seen a single Indian born cricket in Perth anywhere, let alone thousands of them playing cricket.
What will RA do when the Lions' money runs out? Preparing ourselves for the post-rugby future
Given the state of the pitch for the Force’s last trip to Lautoka, I have to question how they drew that short straw 2 years running. The Florida Everglades would have better surfaces. The match should never have gone ahead. I just hope the weather is better. Hard enough to win there as it is.
Two-week tour of NZ to make or break season, and define Wallabies selection - five things
Can you give any examples of this shameful campaigning or are you just stealing lines from a reply to one of your rants.
The Wrap: Bare-knuckle dogfight ends in draw - and what happens when the Lions money is gone?
At the ground, regulation time was frustrating to watch while as Geoff said, Murphy allowed the breakdown to become a shizen fight. Very slow ball at most rucks. It was then a bit strange in extra time to see the players become champions of fair play when a ruck penalty became possibly terminal. I’d have taken a punt on Murph being even more reluctant to police things and cheated like hell. 😊
Still it was gripping stuff and a laugh to see fans heading for the exits at 80, then scramble back to their seats when they realised it wasn’t over.

The Wrap: Bare-knuckle dogfight ends in draw - and what happens when the Lions money is gone?
The reasons Rugby in Australia has been behind the 8 ball since it went pro are very complex. It’s frustrating & any remedy will need a lot of different factors moving upward at once. One area where people trying to dissect the problems are a bit off the mark is pointing out the “rampant” AFL & NRL as our big problems. While there is some truth there, NH Rugby, Superleague and a host of others have to contend with the behemoth EPL, Serie A, Bundesliga etc. It’s really a matter of population & the tyranny of distance. None of those are going to change. It’s going to need innovative thinking and true cooperation from RA & the NZRU to maintain relevance and be sustainable. Because although the Wallaby brand has lost some lustre, the AB brand isn’t on an upward trend either. Stronger together as they say.
The Wrap: Bare-knuckle dogfight ends in draw - and what happens when the Lions money is gone?
Especially when viewed through the prism of losing BP’s going to teams who haven’t really deserved one. 5 points or more available some matches and only 4 in a draw doesn’t make sense.
Force and Hurricanes blow golden chances to win as epic contest finishes in crazy draw
True. Has been far from an easy journey for the past 20 years. Results not great and even though there has still been some discrimination from RA we are finally getting a pretty fair shot and so far we are in the fight.

Easy. Don’t feed the troll.

Not a Tigers fan but like lots of us, I really hope they’ve turned the corner. If they have , this young bloke might have made a fatal error. Boom young halves getting mega deals don’t have a great track record. This “shortage” of them is no new thing, if it even is a thing. A shortage of patience at some clubs may be more the point.
No, Benji has not yet proved his coaching ability. But he’s got some fine assistants – which is supposedly what all the good ones have. Don’t know what his manager is advising but the circumstantial evidence seems to point to “if it quacks like a duck…….”. Surely the smart play was to see this year out and reassess. Unless of course, agitating for an early escape was the play all along.
Too much, too soon: The one thing Lachie Galvin doesn’t get no matter how hard his agent whinges
Well from a Force PoV, yes it’s crucial all right. A must win home game before a tough road trip across the dutch. All home games pretty much must wins to stay in the fight now.
Super Rugby teams, round 10: Tahs rest big name Wallabies, Kuenzle makes long-awaited return for Force
Whether Baz fell over the line or not he’s leader of the leaderless opposition now, and has had decades in the Perth AFL power clique.
As an example of that clout; the the WAFC were at some point “gifted” a 99 year $1 a year peppercorn lease over Subiaco Oval. When the Western Force kicked off the “lessors” were allowed to charge Rugby WA a ground hire fee of $250,000 per match (IIRC). Fair??
They squealed like the proverbial pigs when they couldn’t get management rights over The Craypot but McGowan rightly told them to go take a flying leap.
NRL expansion mess in Perth is too much to Bear
Some of the commentary I’ve seen/heard from Sydney is totally ignorant of the actual situation on the ground in Perth. A typical example was an interview with Brad McKay yesterday. Played 1 season and high-tailed it back to Saints. Among other out-of-date information was his praise of the junior numbers and “Very strong local A-Grade comp”, which was very true in 1975. If they wanted accurate info they need to talk to people Like Matt Fuller (The Sheep) who is still in Perth and had a hand in running the Perth Reds SG Ball team. Unfortunately the number of registered players has halved over time and the local 1st Grade is a shadow of what was. This is the type of person they need on the board to get the required numbers back up.
