The tipping point was the loss of JFH and Luai. Both had as much or more influence on Penrith’s success than Cleary. They were able to manage the loss of Critta, however the loss of penetration in the centres was noticeable.

NRL Power Rankings: Round 10 - The two most disappointing teams stumble again, Dogs never say die, beware the Roosters

“Stephen Crichton leading from the front despite being out wide at centre (try explaining the logistics of that sentence to a non rugby league follower),”. If the person you’re explaining it to answers is “ that left right out”, you’ve got a major problem. Start over again.

Thanks SCG for that more comprehensive biography. It’s interesting that Cowper was probably one of many advocating for increased pay for Test cricketers. They then found the right advocate in Chappelli who took on the establishment.

Aussie selectors will be continuing comedy of errors if they convert Marnus into an opener

A little off topic, but I wanted to remember former test cricketer Bob Cowper. Victorian batsman Cowper, died in Melbourne on Saturday after a lengthy battle with cancer at age 84. He produced one of Australia’s greatest Test innings when he made 307 against England at the MCG in 1966.RIP Bob Cowper.

CZ BG SCG all consulted with Paul Suttor. This would make for interesting viewing. One things for sure with George, there will be no consensus is found.

Aussie selectors will be continuing comedy of errors if they convert Marnus into an opener

It seems more rational BG to take Green to the West Indies and let the continuity afforded by a three test tour assist him back into test cricket than a one off “ pressure cooker” WTC final against Rabada and co. As you correctly point there is no hurry.

The two 70s in the BGT carry a lot of “weight” apparently. The selectors are conservative and loyal to incumbents. However this is another potentially mind bending decision . I can’t see him lasting long against the new pill, with Rabada , Jansen and Nortje steaming in. It seems Konstas’ non selection for Sri Lanka was more than to keep him away from the spin and he is now on the periphery of the Australian side.

Too many ramps??

Two freaks of players Hammer and Trell. Both will be at Origin1.

It was magical and so funny!! It was Mitchell’s night alround.

Tony he looks like he’s getting ready for phase 2 of his career in the forwards. He is running at the defensive line like a forward.

There are two people in the Qld origin side that would have caught and brought down the rampaging Haas. Hammer and Tommy Dearden.

I’m surprised he is still in the NRL. Testament to his durability. Don’t do a Langlands Dane!

The only thing unnerving for Loz and blues supporters with Mitchell, notwithstanding his brilliance last night, is the occasional brain snaps, like throwing the ball back as he was going over the sideline, which went into the in goal area or a dubious high shot. This is what makes Origin coaches go prematurely grey. He also is first into melees. However the benefits of having Mitchell far outweigh negatives in Origin.

What is wrong with Brisbane in the first 15 mins of a second half? Ahead enough against Dogs, but a repeat last night like a motor that suddenly loses power going from four cylinders to three. Mystifying. They shouldn’t be blowing leads like that.

Reminiscent of the great South Sydney and Roosters lock Ron Coote. He demonstrated cover defence at its best. A sublime performance from Mitchell, who is peaking at the right time for the Blues.

Ben Hunt is past his prime. Has been a great servant for Qld. “Hunt’s injury could also have Origin ramifications with the versatile veteran under pressure to hold his spot”. Tom Dearden has served qld well and has been in excellent form throughout the season. Qld won’t lose anything with Dearden.

A Special Talent NSW must accommodate. “The way he nonchalantly nailed the 48-metre attempt at field goal in the rain at Accor Stadium was the hallmark of a special talent.” That was an extraordinary field goal in the wet. Yet it was his cover defence that saved tries and won the game. It looked like Ron Coote in his prime. His MOM performance was sealed with a cunning try, while the usual winding down of the clock took place, when players accept that its full time with 10-15 secs still on the clock. Not anymore.

Have to agree to disagree. I’m sure those arriving on Qantas know it’s a clear reference to Australia. 60 % of Australia DONT agree with you Ben and you are being painfully pedantic.

If you’ve been welcomed once, you don’t need to be welcomed again. I don’t need to be welcomed into Australia, where I was born every time my Qantas plane lands.

Mate, you notice I left it to the very last sentence.

Green’s maiden county stint began with a 112 against Kent, but that’s been followed by scores of 3, 4, 2 and now 8 from 24 balls against Lancashire. Green is taking time to find his feet, and this is understandable in the context of his rehabilitation .Labuschagne will leave a lot of balls and opening against Jansen and Rabada will be tough for Labs and maybe a bridge too far for Green, at this stage in his comeback. I feel we will be two down for not many. The problem facing both Test sides is the lack of cricket played. It’s out of season for both the two southern hemisphere sides. The advantage for Australia is that SA batting is fragile. Those that have been playing IPL and county cricket have recent experience , form or otherwise. Interestingly the leading Australian opener in county cricket in 2025 is Marcus Harris with 585 runs.
