Who do you see replacing them in the top 4, Jimmy? I’m guessing the Dogs & Storm would be close to certainties but the other Clubs seem to be playing very hot & cold footy.
I think the Warriors still have a lot of improvement in their attack and if they maintain their unbeaten record at home, don’t get killed by injuries, would take some catching by other top 4 contenders

Again though, how much of this is down to him and how much to the players?
The Bunnies are in a similar position in terms of injuries, etc but appear to be travelling much better because of their attitude. That win over the Broncos was down to pure team spirit, which is the key ingredient Manly seems to be lacking right now.
Somehow Siebold or his staff have to work out which buttons to push to get the team playing cohesively and for each other. Get that right, get a few guys back from injury and the Sea Eagles are back in premiership contention for sure.
NRL Power Rankings: Round 10 - The two most disappointing teams stumble again, Dogs never say die, beware the Roosters
If the Dragons win even 2 of those three games they lost by a point, they’re not 14th, they’re top 8. As you say, it can make a huge difference to ladder positions

A few places lower than 14th?

I actually feel for Siebold. He’s got a gun fullback either playing injured or out of form, a half-back who appears to have reached his use-by date though he doesn’t know that yet, a very experienced 5/8 who’s playing equally underwhelming football behind a pack that’s struggling with it’s go forward and 7 regulars on the sidelines – and all of this is the coaches fault?

I made the comment elsewhere that catching & passing is another skill that seems missing at present and in my mind, that’s also part of ball control. Attacking raids were killed off by simple passes being thrown behind or to the wrong side of the runner, rather than in front so the next player has to run onto it.
You’re right, your boys were the better of the two sides in the first half but the attacks looked almost slow motion at times because of the inability to pass & catch properly
Five and a Kick: Sharks avoid double-digit hoodoo to roll Manly, Papi bangs down Origin door as Storm thrash Tigers
Certainly unnecessary. I’ve no idea why players do that sort of thing. It’s cost guys games through needless suspensions already this year.

I’d have thought the Dragons should be a few places higher. This is a side that’s lost 3 games by a point and only one game by more than 8.
They’re obviously frustrating their supporters but once they remember how to win, I can see them climbing the ladder

I think Manly could also be asking what value add they’re getting from Brooks? I’d have thought if DCE’s not providing the spark, Brooks should but he’s a bit MIA as well.
Given their experience, probably the most disappointing halves combination in the competition at present.

Ditto which is why I’m in agreement that you’re disagreeing with me. 😊
Aussie selectors will be continuing comedy of errors if they convert Marnus into an opener
Thanks again AJ. Completely agree about the high shots in particualr.
Latrell Mitchell is the textbook definition of an “enigmatic player”. Some games, he looks completely interested and in others, like the win against the Broncos, he looks scary focused. A skillset that includes being able to complete a 55 yard drop kick on the fly in wet conditions, must be a terrifying prospect for opposition coaches – if his head’s in the right place.
The look on Des’s face at the end of the games against the Knights was priceless. The Roar should hold a contest to ask people what was he thinking. My guess is “why did I clear out my desk already?”
I want to thank the Bulldogs for wearing what looked like Newtown Bluebags jumpers for their game in Canberra. They even played a bit like Newtown in that first half but really came good in the second.
That’s two solid wins away from home in 2 weeks for the Warriors. Nothing flashy or spectacular but their heading back to New Zealand with the competition points. As for the Dragons, it looks like they’re going to have one of those seasons where they lose the close ones. Three losses by a point and another by 2, must frustrate the hell out of their supporters.
Every team has copped a belting this season and I guess it was the Tigers turn. Sadly they had the bad luck to score the Storm in an angry mood after getting beaten last week. This is one time where an experienced coach would simply shrug the shoulders, say nothing, not even look at the tape and move on to next week. Benji, sometimes you have to say nothing, wear the loss and not apportion blame.
I wonder if playing in the NRL means you have to park your memory at the dressing room door because players seem to forget about simple rules like not hitting guys high and playing the ball with your foot. I truly hope an incorrect play the ball costs a team an important game. Maybe then the memories might come flooding back.
Finally, I watched a number of games and something I learned as a 10 year old seems to have disappeared from teams, especially those who are struggling – the art of throwing a pass in front of a player and that player actually catching it.
Yes there were some interesting games on the weekend but some of the simple skills like this one, were simply non-existent. IMO this is a huge reason why so many attacks look stilted. Guys have to stop running to catch a poorly thrown pass which kills their momentum. Or worse still, run back 20 yards to dive on a pass that didn’t get close to the next attacker.

The problem with Latrell’s last play was that it was unnecessary. Both sides and the match officials had switched off and he decides to get clever, feign taking a tackle then rubs it into the Broncos who were already beaten.
He’ll only get one shot at doing that because if he tries it again, especially against Brsibane, he’ll get ironed out for sure – legally of course. 😊

I saw a tackler land very close to Salmon. It must have been a very gentle dive TB because Salmon was up and having plenty to say within seconds.

As someone with no skin in the Manly/Cronulla game, I thought the ball control from two teams supposedly vying for finals spots was verging on diabolical.
Conditions were near perfect for footy yet both sides struggled with their handling. How many straight forward passes were dropped cold or guys coughing up the ball in simple tackles? Plenty is the right answer.
Five and a Kick: Sharks avoid double-digit hoodoo to roll Manly, Papi bangs down Origin door as Storm thrash Tigers
Why not? That gives us a chance to leave out a guy who made a double hundred in his last series, bat Smith out of position and follow the Poms lead by playing two wicketkeepers
Aussie selectors will be continuing comedy of errors if they convert Marnus into an opener
I can certainly see how basking in reflected on-field success can be classed as an achievement by selectors but that’s only if those offering praise think that’s their only job – win games.
Their real job IMO is to leave the side in at least as good, if not better shape, than when they took on the role. This is where non-selections are far more critical than making choices, getting them wrong and making new choices.
The best example in recent times is leaving Dave Warner in place for at least 2 years too long. Yes the side was winning but that was in spite of him, not because of him. The end result is a dysfunctional top order with no obvious solutions because the selectors have no cluse how to fix the problem.
They very much run the same risk with this idiotic insistence on Green apparently being an automatic pick and also with the attack, where only Lyon has a decent replacement with some Test experience. Yes there’s talented quicks available but they’ve hardly played a Test between them.
Still, as you say, the selectors will likely snatch it after the Ashes and be patted on the back for a job well done, then spend the next few years as “expert analysts”, criticising their replacements for trying to fix the mess Bailey in particular created.

I’m not sure what advantage Penrith might have gained given he apparently did this before every restart, (if this story is accurate). I don’t ercall anyone having any issues with the handling so am not sure how this can be seen as anything but gross stupidity.
Cheating? Yes, I reckon you could call it that but Clubs spend huge amounts of time doing that in all manner of ways, from the Broncos having Alfie on the field directing play to guys holding down in tackles, playing the ball incorrectly, etc.
Where does it fit on the cheating scale? Way down the bottom IMO. There’s far worse every game that is just as deliberate that has far more impact.

I agree with you 😂
Aussie selectors will be continuing comedy of errors if they convert Marnus into an opener
Selectors patience, even for the rusted on group we currently have, must be wearing thin with Marnus. I’d suggest he’s probably used up whatever credits he made from being the world’s best bat and his failures in Sri Lanka were probably offset by the few good innings he played in the BGT series.
I’m guessing with Green back, Inglis playing well and Konstas an option, Marnus probably has 8 more innings to really hold onto his spot. If not, he’ll be hoping for a red hot Shield season and/or other cotnenders who could open or bat 3, to crash & burn.
But then again, if Australia keeps winning and he does nothing, the selectors will keep picking him.

Granted it’s a stupid thing to do but massive fines, suspensions, etc?
Surely there’s other things the League can investigate and punish like the continual coaching from guys who are permanent fixtures on the field

The Bears at the Central Coast would be a disaster IMO. The expectations on them to be finalists from season one would be enormous, both from the east coast public and a ferocious media putting ridiculous pressure on the coach and playing squad.
If they get the right management approach, they can quietly build the right relationships with the media and fan base in Perth and be successful over time.
Perth Bears launched as V'landys blasts 'biased ... clickbait' paper's front page
It’s fun to speculate on the best 17 for Perth but they really need to be focusing on the other 13 guys in their roster. The Dolphins have shown what happens when Clubs have significant injueies and don’t have the depth to replace them.
By all means, shoot for the stars with one or two marquee players, but they can’t lose sight of the guys who really make any Club tick – the 12 – 15 or so on $400k or much less.
The 2027 Perth Bears full transfer shortlist: Let the wild player transfer speculation begin
I wonder how Mr Fixit V’landys proposes to sort out a judiciary that gives a player 4 games for an innocuous tackle deemed a crusher, yet fines two other guys a thousand bucks for much worse?
I’m not having a dip at those who made these decisions because they’re trying to work with a system that seems very flawed.
NRL Judiciary: Raiders young gun in strife for dangerous throw, Maroons star avoids ban
Given how heavily the ball dominated in the BGT series, I’m not surprised selectors thought highly of the decent scores Marnus made. That said, there’s no way it can justify moving him to a position he’s publicly said he doesn’t want to play, when his recent for has been poor.
If the changes are made for the final as suggested, I’m really keen to hear how Bailey and co justify these calls.

I don’t think tackling comes naturally to Nicho. He does it but doesn’t enjoy it, not like some guys who are really good defenders.
