Hey Chips, in the tipping blog I referenced your article https://www.theroar.com.au/2024/12/16/prospecting-for-gold-who-stands-out-in-australias-next-generation-of-front-rowers/ regarding the loosie Lington Ieli getting his debut SRP gig in the Brumbies vs Tahs match tomorrow night.
Am not sure if it got past the moderators though. I threw in a Thugby Special aside as a joke and perhaps flew too close to the Sun. 😢
Ice Man Harvey nails 84th minute conversion to seal dramatic draw for Junior Wallabies against New Zealand
Good to see the Oz teams going hell for leather with the Kiwi sides. Sounds like both teams already coached quite well (4 yellow cards) in how to infringe near your line to stop a try.
Just hope we can keep most of these blokes in Rugby rather than be a feeder team for the NRL expansion teams the Perth Bears and Nui Guinea HeadHunters (don’t know their name but that’s how they play their lige up there).

Seems my long post got moderated out, so:
Blues by 15+, Reds, Chiefs, Brumbies and the Highlanders (warning banana skin game). 😁
The Roar's Super Rugby expert tips and predictions round 12: 'This one should be personal for the Brumbies'
Charlie, I would pay serious money to watch Egon Seconds from RSA referee that 2nd Lions Vs Wallabies test. I still remember how about 6-7 years ago, Egon single-handedly destroyed the Rebels in a Super Rugby match played in the high veldt against the SA Lions with the halftime score Rebels belting the Lions 33 -5 (near that, cannot quite remember). He blew the Rebels off the park in the 2nd half with about 18 penalties for the Lions who won 36-33. A game to remember, a referee to remember! 😂
We might get flogged but the comedy would ease the pain. 😁
'Going to be carnage': Lions fans in meltdown as ref accused of 'mind blowing' gaffe named for Wallabies Test
Colvin, you can sleep easy tonight knowing that Bennie Boy (BOK or sometimes known as Mr Ben O’Keefe) isn’t anti-Southern Island; he ADORES the Crusaders.
I honestly don’t know how my TV has survived my tantrums over the last 11 odd years when watching BOK referee Crusaders’ games. I blow my top as he makes things up on the fly to not penalise/issue card the Borg, further he just turns a blind eye and its anything goes in the rucks when the Crusaders are in strife. 😱 😡
And this is when I have no skin in the game. I won’t mention how I froth like a rabid dog when my beloved TNT are playing them. 😂
'Going to be carnage': Lions fans in meltdown as ref accused of 'mind blowing' gaffe named for Wallabies Test
– Blues have too much power and will hammer the Force in sunny Orcland. Trouble for the Force is with 3 of their 4 preferred props in the wards and 2 of their 3 hookers also, they are getting skinny in the front row. I expect their scrums going backwards and multiple scrum penalties giving the Blues a nice leg up to penalty-kick 4 line-LO-maul. The Force 2nd and back row looks pretty good and not a bad backline. The Blues have made 10 changes from the side walloped by the Reds, BBBB is at 5/8th, playing at Eden park with coach V.Cotter’s boot prints on their butts they will be breathing fire to smite the Perthians. Blues by 15+
– Drua will try to play touch footy, if the Reds stick to their game they should win this one with their replacements bringing on the win. Drua will try to bash through the smaller Reds’ backline, hoping for pop-up offloads to find the space. Interesting game as the home team mostly wins between these two sides. Peni Ravai will be packing down against his former mates, so plenty of banter. Expect a try-a-thon with Reds winning by 8+.
– Almost inclined to go for the home team Hurricanes in this one especially as A.Aumua, B.Iose and I.Walker-Leawere are back in the starters, but I look at the Chiefs 6:2 reserves and feel a chill down my spine. The Canes have spluttered all this SRP, sometimes good-sometimes all over the shop. 😔 The Canes looked good last week against the ponies who forgot how to effectively tackle, I doubt the Chiefs will be so lenient. Chiefs too strong and will win by 11+.
– As president of Them Noble Tahs (TNT), I’m conflicted on this one. TNT has destroyed my last 5 bl**dy tips involving them; as a consequence I’m going down the SRP tipping ladder faster than L.Lovelace. TNT have beefed up in the piggies after the flogging in Fiji but their back row (and locks for that matter) look small to me. J.Gordon is back also to kick the lazy forwards along. Of interest is the Ponies’ reserve LHP Lington Ieli, who played pretty good in the 2024 Junior World Cup. The Roar spoke of him in Chips B’s article shown here https://www.theroar.com.au/2024/12/16/prospecting-for-gold-who-stands-out-in-australias-next-generation-of-front-rowers/ The other interest in the return of hooker M.Vailanu for the Tahs. This bloke is a real goer. My plan here is tip the Tahs opponent and I will win either via the tipping contest or a victory for TNT. Brumbies by 8+
– Who doesn’t love a Sunday game in sunny PenguinLand? H.Renton is back in town and F.Holland is playing and that should carry the Highlanders to a win. Of Aussie interest is FINALLY Pone Fa’amausili is getting a game at THP off the bench. With zero confidence, Highlanders by 5.
In short: Blues, Reds, Chiefs, Brumbies and Highlanders. 😁
The Roar's Super Rugby expert tips and predictions round 12: 'This one should be personal for the Brumbies'
The Reds piggies were gassed in that last 15 minutes, playing footy at full pelt does that. Credit to the Blues though, they got fresh legs (as did the Reds) and trucked the ball up to score a couple of tries to take away the bonus point. A bit of luck and they could even have got to 7 pts behind and get a ladder bonus point themselves. Twas not to be. 😔
Reds' stoic defence rattles Blues as Kiss' men get season back on track on the back of Lynagh double
In test footy against the top tier sides, two “smallish” opensides just doesn’t work as they just get blasted off the ball and referees just close their eyes to a lot of breakdown infringements by teams to keep the game flowing.
I can see some benefits in the idea but I have a real problem with a back row missing a good lineout jumper and only one large human to take the ball up. For me, it just doesn’t work unless you’re playing Georgia or Japan where the opposition isn’t 15 behemoths. To be honest I also have a problem with both Harry Wilson and Rob Valetini in the side, especially if W.Skelton is a starter.
Gleeson stars but Waratahs' winless streak on the road continues as Drua punish NSW in Fiji
I’m on a PC so I normally have no problems with ads etc etc, but today (Fri 24th) I cannot see the tipping selection box for all the teams. Is that because its only 3 hours to kick-off or a change to the page set-up?
Its ok for me as I simply clicked the SR tipping button on the menu but I imagine the good folks on phones will be crying in their beer. 😢
The Roar's Super Rugby expert tips and predictions, Round 11: 'It's not about the tipping, rather the importance of the matches'
I highly doubt if anyone scored all 5 of last weekend tips. Anyone crazy enough to tip a draw deserves 2 points for the bravery. As usual, the Tahs destroyed my chances; that is 5 weeks in a row. The good news for Round 11 is no Tahs to destroy my tips. ???? Onto this week:
– The Force played really well last week and surprised a lot of people that they not only hung in the fight against a top-notch Kiwi team but were a post-siren missed penalty from winning the whole shebang. Some folks say “oh the Canes played really loose, just a bad day” but I look upon many Canes’ errors were FORCE’d on them (see wot I did there. 😛 ). As for today, a lot of the Force boys will still be hurting, as well they have lost Yappy ½, BPA, “Bob” MarleyP and V.Ekuasi against a Chiefs’ side at home and welcoming some heavy artillery back. I can’t see the Force winning this one, Chiefs by 11.
– This game can go either way. Last year’s match was a ripper, with the Junkyard Dog scoring a hat-trick and the Blues winning try after the siren. Reds can lose this game simply because the Blues will likely win most of the set piece possession. The Reds have line-out problems and they know it with 2 locks on their bench. A lot of the Blues have likely had the blues all week as they were bashed up by the Borg last week whereas the Reds are at home and fresh. Reds are playing for their season so if good enough will win, but the loss of M.Faessler tips the scales for me. Brissie weather 22° and light showers, so I’m ignoring the “experts” and tipping the Blues by 11 even if the referee is a Queenslander. One danger for the Reds is no flyhalf on the bench (I guess Jock Campbell slots in if Tiny Tommy gets injured.
– The Battle of the cellar dwellers. Moana Pasifika have looked pretty good whereas the Drua on the road are all over the shop. I’m really impressed by the Drua flyhalf Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula, who has replaced Caleb Munz; this bloke can play good footy. Moana by 10
– The Penguins will score a beautiful running rugby try, but the Borg will bore in like wild boars and bore everyone to death. Crusaders by 18.
– This is a banana skin, the donkeys looked pretty good last week testing their defence but at times were stretched. The Hurricanes will be snakey after “kissing their sister” last Saturday night. Coach Larkham rested two of his 1st choice front row last week and will see the dividends in this match. B.Pollard is starting to look a very very good player whereas the Canes have lost A.Aumua for this game. Both sides have their first choice outside centres which will improve both their backline attack and defence, L.Ikitau and B.Proctor are important to both sides. Brumbies by 6.
In short: Chiefs, Blues, Moana Pasifika, Crusaders and Brumbies.
The Roar's Super Rugby expert tips and predictions, Round 11: 'It's not about the tipping, rather the importance of the matches'
Winning the breakdowns is the most important part of a game as well it outnumbers every aspect of playing rugby apart from passes of the ball. Every player is expected to do his duty in this regard.
A couple of big hits and/or runs every game by a player is great to see but for me, ruck watchers need not apply. Look at the big kiwi and NH sides and every single forward either protects the ball in rucks, cleans out or pilfers (or sunbakes and various other illegalities 😛 ). If you just watch and say “hey I made a big run and busted 2 tackles 10 minutes ago, why should I get tired doing ruck work” then you’re not going to be starting many games. Tahs could afford L.Gleeson over the last couple of years because they had blokes with huge motors like J.Hollaway in addition to M.Vaianu, H.Sinclair, L.Swinton and C.Gamble to cover while he went the glory road.
L.Gleeson did some good things tonight, but most of his ruck work is walking up and laying on top of someone. I can only remember one time today when he drove in and cleaned out an opponent.
Gleeson stars but Waratahs' winless streak on the road continues as Drua punish NSW in Fiji
I wouldn’t say the lazy Tah poster boy L.Gleeson starred, more he played better than the 22 other blokes in light blue shirts.
He did some good things today, but the bloke still tends to wait for his highlights moments and just stands off the rucks watching. That means other blokes are doing his work. 😔
Gleeson stars but Waratahs' winless streak on the road continues as Drua punish NSW in Fiji
I’ve been to most Tahs matches at the Sydney Footy Ground this year (missed the Chiefs one, damn it) and what I find annoying is one third of the large screen is filled with advertisements and yet they have stopped putting small typed announcements up on the board; such as reason for a penalty and any replacements and if HIA or injury. Although the ground announcer often gives a reason for the penalty and sometimes who replaces who, with all the ambient noise it’s difficult to hear the words properly.
Someone at the SFS needs a good kick up the Khyber Pass. If the audience is informed what is going on, the happier they will be.
'Defended like demons': Waratahs STUN Chiefs in epic Super Rugby upset as Suaalii, Kellaway star
Round 10 is filled with banana-skin games although our beloved “experts” have mostly agreed on who wins what. I cannot comment as I was one of the dunderheads who went “yeah, it’s wet and Brumbies will switch to 10-man power-up-front rugby plus the Reds are missing heaps of quality players and really looking out of gas, so I’ll pick the Reds”. 😱 Anyhow onto this week:
– The Borg look to have found their Collective Might again and are smiting all in their path. C.Taylor is back, D.Havili is playing with pain from an Archilles (DANGER) and S.Barrett has found form. The Blues lost C.Clarke and haven’t looked that convincing all year. Crusaders by 6.
– Normally you would go for the Drua playing in Fiji, especially against an inconsistent Them Noble Tahs (TNT) side missing 3 Wallaby forwards and 2 WB backs. The Tahs have messed up my tip for the last 4 weeks, but hey! I am a masochist. I even read Jimbo81’s posts. LoL.
The Drua have been really disappointing this year, its possible their travel and hotel arrangements when on the road have a lot to do with their form, but this year they are losing also in Fiji. I am going the Tahs to keep it in the forwards and depend on tough defence plus penalty-LO-mauls to win them the game aka Brumby Ball. I’m glad to see Ben Pobjie agrees with me, TNT by 6. 😛
– Moana Pasifika have been great to watch this year, but no A.Savea will really test them against a confident Brumbies team at close to full strength. Only query I have is I always thought R.van Neck was a tighthead prop. For the Pasifika, I don’t get the idea of J.Savea at inside centre, except he is a big fast bloke who will crash ball it up the guts. Am not convinced his defence is that good, like watching a battleship turn around. Brumbies by 12+.
– Chiefs will be dirty on losing to TNT and will make sure the Highlanders don’t inflict more pain on them. The Highlander pigs look better with H.Renton back and the return of F.Fakatava and J.Rat-Knees makes them a dangerous side playing good footy, but the Chiefs will bash the, then run through and around them. Chiefs by 13+.
– The Hurricanes have really missed A.Savea’s calmness and leadership this year. They murdered almost everyone is SRP2024 only to lose the semi-final to a Chiefs side peaking at the right time. This year they have only beaten the Drua and TNT in Windy Wello and the Highlanders. The Force have looked good in front of their beloved “Sea of Blue” but only 1 win away (lacklustre Brumbies) with a couple of floggings when away. Last year at Windy Wello, the Canes belted the Force (without A.Savea) and most of that side is still there. Quality should win and I am going for the Hurricanes by 8.
In Short: Crusaders, Waratahs, Brumbies, Chiefs and Hurricanes.
The Roar's Super Rugby expert tips and predictions, Round 10: One brave soul picks Tahs Lautoka triumph
That Chiefs’ outside centre hit another Tah with a shoulder charge about 5 minutes earlier and got away with it.
What gets me is people are talking of the massive law suit against World Rugby by ex-players and how WR is really going forward in protection of the health of players, yet the SRP referees appear to have agreed amongst themselves to go by the rule “stay out of controversy and let the game flow“. In the last 8-9 weeks I’ve seen 4-5 high shots that all should have been a 3-5 weeks holiday but at best the players copped a yellow card and not one got cited. Its got that crazy and for mine the referees could be setting themselves up for litigation. 😡 😱
'Defended like demons': Waratahs STUN Chiefs in epic Super Rugby upset as Suaalii, Kellaway star
Is 2026 when NZ and RSA run off and play their own little money-spinner and bu99er the Rugby Championship? So the intensity of matches might not be as severe, at least not until the EOYT.
I imagine RA and Argentina are in talks of putting on games somewhere or even a small tour. I would like to see Australia and Argentina organise matches against Fiji and perhaps Japan and the USA (goodwill in helping them for their 2031 RWC) in a Pacific Cup of sorts. It also would allow the WB coach to trial out one or two prospects in a couple of the “easier” matches, especially in the halves, 5/8ths and centres.
'Massive workload': McKellar's word of warning for RA ahead of Wallabies coaching decision
Some very iffy matches this week, like “which team will show up? the ferocious man-eaters or the pussycats?” Lets cheer for the man-eaters: 😁
– The first game looks like a rip-snorter, I just hope the dreaded J.Doleman has a good game. Both teams have quality back rows to die for, the Borg scrum will cause havoc in the 1st half but the Canes have a better line-out. Canes have been hot and cold all year (as have the Borg due to injury disruptions) and its hard to pick them with confidence, so I won’t. I think returning inside centre D.Havili will put some structure into the Saders’ backline moves and their reserves will be too classy. The game depends on the Saders shutting down the Canes’ forwards and their halves getting fast ball out to the speed merchants. I’m nervous on this coin-toss of a game but pick the Borg by 4.
– Like everyone else Them Noble Tahs (TNT) have burnt up my goodwill for this year. Their weaknesses are staring everyone in the face and even they know it; middle of SRP-road locks, two back rowers allergic to rucks, so-so halves and mid-quality centres. I just hope everyone puts in a good effort in front of their home fans. Their last 3 matches have destroyed my tips so there is no way I will back them here, Chiefs by a lot.
– Blues put in a great effort last week as their returning players added nous and beef to their solid pack but they really need to get a spark into their backline to beat the good teams. Moana Pasifika have played out of their skins of late and get the Miracle back this week. A clue for this game was Moana’s first half against the Tahs; they were ragged and the Tahs held their forwards and looked like taking the game. Whatever was in the half time orange juice really sparked the Pasifika boys to a great win. I reckon the Blues will lead at half time but won’t toss in the towel when Moana lift their gears in the 2nd half. Blues by 9.
– The Highlanders lost some players from the Force match but importantly have F.Fakatava, C.Millar, H.Renton and J.Rats-knees back in the side. Without captain M. Derenalagi and F.Loamani guiding them around the park, I cannot see the Drua getting a win in the cold “land of the penguins”. Highlanders by 12.
– Reds are going to really miss the go-forward of H.Wilson, although replacement S.Uru is a very good player and improves their lineout. Their centres are solid, with Dre Pakeho going OK, but the Reds are one injury from disaster with no centres in their reserves. The Ponies have C.Cale and J.Debz out but welcome back L.Reimer and the Lonergans. The Reds have played great attacking footy all year while the Brumbies have been hot and cold. Reds by 7.
In short: Crusaders, Chiefs, Blues, Highlanders and Reds.
The Roar's Super Rugby tips and predictions, round 9: 'Don't trust the Tahs, they'll only break your heart'
Last week’s tips really sorted out the men from the boys. I looked through the SRP tipping ladder and from what I can see only ONE person scored all 4 matches. Stand up Oh Mighty Ben Pobjie! We crown thee as the “March King of the Tipsters”. Onto this weekend, which could also end up a bloodbath with so many iffy matches!
– I’m going to go the Chiefs for this one, and win by 7+. The Chiefs have some top players out, others are on the pine, so its likely they won’t be their usual efficiency so at risk. The Reds’ forwards should hold the Chiefs pack OK but the Chiefs have better reserves. However the Reds lineout was a mess against the Force and this week with S.Uru rested, it may be weaker. My main worry is HMP at 5/8th is an elusive runner but for mine, he doesn’t seem to fire up his backline. F.Daugunu has been one of the best outside centres this year but has been moved to winger to get Dre Pakeho into the #13 shirt (who played a decent game last week at inside centre). I would have thought keep Dauguna at outside centre and bring in Tim Ryan for the left wing spot. Finally another issue is two fullbacks in the 23, surely its one or the other. The side looks unbalanced for mine.
– Them Noble Tahs (TNT) are burning up my goodwill this year. 🤢 I tip against them and they flog the Brumbies. I tip them against a stuttering Hurricanes and they get smashed. I almost tipped against them this week, except Moana Pasifika lost 3 players from their mighty win against the Borg and I expect most will still be feeling ginger after that match. This game will be mighty close. For the Tahs, poor old C.Gamble is running himself into the ground doing all the breakdown work of the back three. Its about time coach D.McKellar kicked the other two back-rowers in the clacker and explained their job at the breakdown is NOT to stand back and watch. Tahs by 5.
– A toss of the coin and perhaps bounce of the ball. The Fijian Drua lost their skipper Meli Derenalagi and their fullback from last week’s game. The Borg midfield is a mess without D.Havili. The Crusaders know it’s on the line today and will go for the Drua’s weakness, 80 minutes of set-piece play. Borg by 9.
– Blues vs ‘Canes is another banana skin. The Hurricanes looked pretty good last week, but the Tahs’ weak efforts at the breakdowns gave the Canes a leg-up. But sheesh, an inch of room and their backline will cut you to pieces. The Blues are finally seeing players return from the sick bay, so will be a much better unit, however the loss of prop Ofa Tu’ungafasi is a blow. And how tough is B.Barrett? Hurricanes to prevail in a down and dirty in the trenches sort of game.
– Another hard one to pick. The Force looked good last week but couldn’t put away a Reds side missing half of their troops plus 2 yellow cards. The Highlanders have consistently ripped teams apart with their backs, but the golden rule is FORWARDS win matches. Almost tipped the Highlanders but Force are on a roll and in front of the sea of Blue. Force by 6.
In short: Chiefs, Tahs, Crusaders, Hurricanes and Force.
The Roar's Super Rugby tips and predictions, round 8: 'Scary - there's not a single tip I'm confident about'
Coker, am not sure why my reply hasn’t shown, so I’ll double up. I agree with your order of Probability of an upset. And so I’ve taken TNT to win in Wellington.
The real fear is in Brissie, with the Force feeling good with their footy after taking the Fijian Drua to the cleaners last week. The Force back row will have their sights squarely on the back row three of the Reds. The cleanouts will be brutal and N.Dolly and King Carlo will aim to pilfer 100 turnovers. 😛 Only backed the Reds as its in Brisbane, but they will need to play a team effort and at their top to knock the Force boys off.
Special giggles goes to BenP for his comment above “….As long as Tom Lynagh doesn’t suffer decapitation (now legal) they should cruise home. ….” A classic line indeed! 😂
The Roar's Super Rugby tips and predictions, round 7: 'I'm probably being very stupid'
Coker, I agree with that Probability order of upsets.
I reckon the Force are in with a big show. Their back row has the hunger and experience to tear the Reds back row three to pieces, especially with brutal cleanouts and steals by N.Dolly and King Carlo. However I’m tipping the Reds solely because its in Brisbane but they want to play clever hard and fast footy for the whole 80 minutes.
The Roar's Super Rugby tips and predictions, round 7: 'I'm probably being very stupid'
The homogenous experts and I all scored 4 from 5 last week. Not shabby, but a hard ask to get 4 this week with a couple of hard-fought matches on the card. Onto Week 7:
– As president of Them Noble Tahs (TNT) I failed in my duty to tip the Tahs last week when at home and suffered mightily. As I cheered with the other 20,570 odd True Blues, my tipping prowess went down the toilet. 🤢 This week is different as they are in the land of the fearsome orcs. The Hurricanes were brutal last year scoring 7 tries to 2, basically pounding everyone into submission before their backs cut you to pieces. This year, only 8 Canes and 7 Tahs remain from last year’s match for their 23 in tomorrow’s match, except for B.Grant who was the reserve 2nd row for the Canes last year but wears the #4 shirt for TNT this year. Tahs looked good last week, their forwards were unrelenting in double tackling the Brumbies and hurting them. It won’t be as easy against the Canes, who really have not put it together this year. The Canes have issues with smallish locks, a newbie flyhalf and outside centre. Their reserve front row and backs don’t look that flash either. Dozy Daemon is the ref so breakdowns will be a mess. I’m not totally sold on the TNT this year, but I reckon they will put the Canes away in a bruising battle. Tahs by 6.
– The Highlanders are a good tough side to beat and play very smart rugby; they really should have won the game in Round 1 against TNT and looked good against the Reds until the bench front row entered the fray. The Brumbies got spanked hard by a TNT side breathing fire after being pumped by the Reds. The Brumbies are bigger this week, Robbie V has some gas in his tank after just 48 minutes last week and David Feliuai is a huge improvement at inside centre to the winger Ollie Sapsford. The ‘Landers will play hard until the reserves come on, the ponies’ reserves look much better. Brumbies by 9+
– Put down the glasses, Crusaders by the length of the straight. Ardie and the Miracle will bust their guts out against the Borg, but no cigar. Crusaders by 37.
– Am almost inclined to go for the Force here as I think the Force back rowers will be licking their chops at the relatively inexperienced Reds unit with no F.McReight nor H.Wilson. The dreadful BOK is ref so expect T.Lynagh to finish the game without a head. This is a 50-50 game and lady luck will likely be the difference. These two played in Perth in Round 3 and it was close until K.Thomas scored the match winner in the 80th minute. This game is in Brissie so am going for the home side. Reds to win by the length of a bee’s appendage. 😂
In Short: Tahs, Brumbies, Crusaders and Reds.
The Roar's Super Rugby tips and predictions, round 7: 'I'm probably being very stupid'
It would be really difficult to find the right time (4th week of EOYT so later November), but THE game that would have every stadium sold out would be SH All Stars Vs BI Lions. The SH All Stars would have players from NZ, Australia, RSA and Argentina and the Pacific Islands. Sure, all the countries would have injured players cry off and ofc many players must kowtow to their clubs but I reckon you could still get a team of 23 players to put the fear into the BI Lions.
Now what a match THAT would be. 😛 🏉
'People want to watch him play': Genia puts hand up to play Lions, calls for Quade to be given AUNZ send-off
So why would RA ask Ian Foster (NZ) to coach the ANZAC All stars if they intend to make a farce of the game by playing pensioners W.Genia and Q.Cooper (2nd Div Japan) and K.Beale (recovering Archilles heel injury and I still shiver and shake thinking of his efforts in 2013)? In the last line, the writer thinks we would all turn on our TVs to watch Dad’s army get flogged with the above 3 making zero tackles, dropping every high contestable kick, throwing passes to row 13 and running sideways with the pill and cramping the backline. I would not even bother watching if they play any of those blokes. The Lions would aim all their runners at and kick up-n-unders at any of those 3 golden oldies and its try time. There might be room for James O’Connor on the bench, but would the Crusaders release him?
The only positions, apart from #9, #10 and #13, that need quality injection of NZ players are one power lock and perhaps TH and LH props. Perhaps former ABs like Alex Hodgman and Jeffery Toomaga-Allen could be drafted in to shore up the scrum (provided they are not in the WB squad). One player I would definitely get on the field is Massimo De Lutiis, this bloke is quality and why not give him exposure against the best of the rest? 😁 So play about 8-10 Aussies with a nice injection of kiwi polish (all black of course 😂 ).
Dare I suggest Foster is coach so he can chat with a couple of quality kiwis like A.Smith, R.Mounga plus one or two rabid ex-AB forwards like S.Frizell and Lurch (Brodie Retallick) in the piggies. I would perhaps include Joesph Manu in the centres (if he is killing them in Japan). It would be great to give Issac Lucas and Harry Hocking a run off the bench, allowing the WB coach plenty of time to whisper in their ear how great living and playing in Australia is. I’m assuming none of the 6-Nations, nor SRP teams will offer quality players for basically a SH Barbarians (sans RSA) match.
The only pensioner I will concede I would love to see get 15-20 minutes off the bench is Michael Hooper, that bloke is a legend and not a walking time bomb like the 3 pensioners listed above.
'People want to watch him play': Genia puts hand up to play Lions, calls for Quade to be given AUNZ send-off
To be honest, If I voted with my head I would have suggested the Highlanders will win the match against the Reds. Reds will be cluncky with so many key men in that back row – halves axis MIA and Highlanders always play tough in Dunedin.
That would have made my tips unique relative to the experts, but my Aussie heart pushed me to the Reds. 😛
That damn heart always chose the girl who just wants to be friends , wtf do I ever listen to it? 😂
The Roar's Super Rugby tips and predictions, round 6: 'In Harry we trust' for Reds, 'no JAS, no hope' for Tahs
The Orcs should win as for some reason Fiji has agreed to a night game, thus negating their main Home Advantage reason which is the searing heat + humidity. Will be like a warm day with humidity for the Boyz from Orcland. Blues by 15+
The reds have almost a first XV in the hospital ward. Sydney is very overcast (1pm Sydney time) and rain on the way. Will be at the game tonight and I think Them Noble Tahs (TNT) just might jag a home town win. Tahs by 3.
