Fair enough. A good rugby man and deserving of respect but a break from tradition nevertheless.
Aussie rugby's worst-kept secret is almost over as Wallabies prepare to unveil fifth coach in six years
I read the report of the Judicial Committee who heard all of the evidence. They appeared to be well qualified to make a decision. Their report was well written. Cheika himself did not accept the findings of fact against him yet he did not appeal them.
On that basis, I am happy to accept it was not a joke. Rather it was an appropriate intervention to punish somebody for inappropriate conduct.

😂 He is a complicated person. While he clearly has strong attributes, I just don’t like the cut of his jib. Fair enough. He probably wouldn’t take to me either.

Well done to Les Kiss if that is true. An impressive, articulate thoughtful man. Queensland’s loss will be Australia’s gain.
However, I do not want to see Cheika anywhere near Queensland.
He served a suspension this year in England for disrespecting a match doctor after a game. He perpetually blames refs for his teams’ losses. Generally he is not a good fit for a respectful, no-nonsense approach shown by Queensland players and coaches in recent years.
I understand he has some success at various times and that some players have spoken highly of him. However I would rather see Queensland coached by someone less uncouth and divisive. Queensland has a tradition of being coached by Queenslanders. I hope the tradition continues.

Thank-you for this article Christy. I had not heard of Blair Swanell. A fascinating history.

Leota set for French move - and Tahs are already looking for Tupou's replacement as Top 14 club circle Wallaby
I’d be fascinated to know where the French clubs get their money to offer so much more than what we can here. I realise Rugby Australia and its states are not flush with funds. However the dollars I have seen bandied around in offers by the French donot seem to come from the FFR.

'Why bother, my memory won't return': Rugby icon's tragic admission - 'I have the impression it wasn't me'
I was in tears by the end of that article.
It is heartbreaking that the game has taken the memory of a man who gave me such wonderful memories.

Selecting a a man who has not played a game of rugby at halfback nor played a Super Rugby match and selecting him against the best of 2/3ds of the six nations sides? It will be April fools day when this is read. Nearly had me there – or at least I hope so!

Apologies. My mistake. It should have read “a provoked elbow.”. You are quite right. Lomani was taken out while he was in the half position. However I did mean to say defenceless though. Canham (not sure) was falling down with his face looking at the ground. Had no ability to see it coming or to defend himself.
Players' union claims Super refs are disrespecting Drua captains, as Fiji investigate travel scandal
Agreed about Lomani.
His tone is badgering at best and insulting at worst. His body language is nothing short of aggressive. He either does not listen to what is told to him or refuses to accept it.
That leads to his continuing to shout at the ref.
His disrespect for the game generally was reflected in his 6 weeks ban (reduced from 10) for an unprovoked elbow to the head of a defenceless player last year. He is clearly a player of talent but needs to chill out.
Rather than an enquiry into the way in which the refs treat him, there should be a gentle reminder to the refs that Lomaani should not be allowed to speak to them in that way. A penalty followed by as many 10 metre marches/YC/RC as needed should do that trick.

That ref’s decision is simply wrong mate. That head contact occurs does not constitute foul play. I defy anyone to point to any provision of Law 9 which has been breached.
'We saw Neymar': Skelton sent off as coach rages over rival's dive in 'dark day for rugby'
G’day Chips. Have a gander at the Head Contact Process. The order to look at things is (i) was their head contact (ii) was there foul play? – if not play on.
Mitigation does not come into play unless there was foul play.
Where was the foul play by Skelton? There simply wasn’t any. Just because there was head contact doesn’t mean there was. He joined the ruck and went to bind on an opponent who lifted his head.
The violence police have swung the pendulum too far with that send-off.

In the last 3 seasons, O’Gara has been suspended for, in effect ref abuse and bringing Rugby into disrepute. That was on 4 occasions and for a total of 20 weeks.
I do not want a person of that calibre coming anywhere near the Wallabies, regardless of his coaching knowledge.
I have commented on O’Gara’s record on a number of articles on the Roar. It does surprise me that it does not get more widespread coverage when his name comes up.

Why Michael Cheika is the perfect man to lead Wallabies to the World Cup -'ready to walk into fire'
It depends on the terms of the suspension. Most do not affect the ability to coach outside match day. Sometimes the coach is not allowed to attend the ground on match day. Sometimes he is allowed in the stand but not to communicate with anyone to do with the team while there – can’t enter the change room, be on the sidelines etc. Other times a coach might be prohibited from attending any rugby ground at all, including training grounds. The type of suspension depends on the nature of the offence and the way in which it was committed.

Not O’Gara with his disciplinary record please. Ref abuse and bringing the Gane into disrepute has seen him receive 4 suspensions as a coach in the last 3 seasons totalling 20 weeks.
Cheika received a 2 week suspension just last year. He blames everyone but himself for a loss. No thanks.

I think the suggestion that Ntamack “will be ruled out for the next fixture against England” is widely optimistic from a French point of view. A shoulder charge to the head with high force gets someone at least 6 weeks.
With an admission of guilt and a previous good record it’s down to 3. If the system persists in allowing one week off for completing a “ How not to cock your shoulder at someone in the head” course, ludicrous though that is, then down to 2 weeks.

'Absolute clown behaviour': ICC hit 'sook' Kohli with feather touch for Konstas bump, India under fire over selection shock
Agreed. After the Symonds/Singh affair, we should all suspect that Indian money rules the ICC roost. Appalling behaviour from any cricketer let alone a tiny minded petulant test match player in the twilight of his career.

Well good on Rassie. I was not aware of that.
I am surprised that WR refs would have accepted his offer after the video made about Berry. I’m glad they did. Better things happen when Rugby people work together, rather than against each other.
Perhaps Michael Cheika should take a page out of Rassie’s sequel! 😛
