Joseph has opted for a 6-2 split on the bench to combat the Blues pack while flanker Veveni Lasaqa earns a start. Folau Fakatava has been promoted into the No. 9 jersey.
Hoskins Sotutu is making his season debut after a minor leg injury kept him out of the loss to the Chiefs, with Cameron Suafoa moving to blindside flanker.
All Black Finlay Christie will start at No.9 ahead of Taufa Funaki while hooker James Mullan is set for a Super Rugby debut off the bench.
