The Reds host the Brumbies in the key Australian match up of round 9, while the Waratahs are looking to arrest their slide on Friday against the Chiefs.

The Queensland outfit has revealed a major blow to their backrow stocks with Wallabies skipper Harry Wilson facing an extended period on the sidelines.

No.8 Wilson sustained a fracture to his arm in contact against the Chiefs in Hamilton last Friday night which will sideline him for around six weeks while Filipo Daugunu misses out with a lower limb injury.

Check out all the team news as it’s revealed below.

Hurricanes vs Crusaders, 5.05pm

Hurricanes coach Clark Laidlaw has kept Ruben Love at fullback instead of a mooted switch to No.10 as he made just one change to his 23 from the loss to the Blues.

Hooker Raymond Tuputupu comes onto on the bench in place of Jacob Devery. Centre Peter Umaga-Jensen and reserve prop Pouri Rakete-Stones will their 50th Hurricanes match.

Waratahs vs Chiefs, 7.35pm

Waratahs coach Dan McKellar has made just two changes to his side for Friday’s huge game against the Chiefs in Sydney.

Former England sevens star Jamie Adamson replaces the sick Charlie Gamble, while Joey Walton starts ahead of Henry O’Donnell in midfield.

Tane Edmed, as reported on Tuesday, has once again been left out.

The other changes are on the bench, with rising lock Miles Amatosero and back-rower Leafi Talataina returning.

After starting the season with three straight wins, the Waratahs are now 4-3 at the midway point of the season after back-to-back defeats across the ditch.

The latest loss was a disappointing 45-28 defeat to Ardie Savea’s Moana Pasifika, with the Waratahs conceding six second-half tries to blow a 14-point half-time lead.

It means the Waratahs desperately need to get back to the winner’s circle, with McKellar’s new-look team having a difficult second half of the season after winning all four home games to start the year.

McKellar said he was pleased to be able to keep some stability in the side despite the loss of Gamble.

“Injuries have played a part at different times this season, but overall there’s a growing consistency in selection, which is important,” he said.

“Outside of Charlie being unavailable, and a few longer-term injuries, it’s a squad that’s building nicely.

“We’re comfortable with the 23 we’ve picked for what’s going to be a huge game.”

The Chiefs are one of the competition’s form teams, and McKellar knows the Waratahs will need to lift to match the New Zealand powerhouse.

“They’re a side that’s probably favoured to win the comp,” McKellar said.“We know the challenge that’s in front of us, but we’re excited by it.”

Chiefs coach Clayton McMillan has made minor team changes.

Damian McKenzie moves to full back as Josh Jacomb, who came off the bench last week is set to start at No. 10. After a top performance at home, Samisoni Taukei’aho returns to the starting line up in the front row. Alongside Tupou Vaa’i and Gideon Wrampling who have also come off the bench.

Reds vs Brumbies, 7.35pm

The Queensland Reds have lost Wallabies captain Harry Wilson for Saturday night’s showdown with the Brumbies in Brisbane.

The No.8 fractured his arm during the 27-15 loss to the Chiefs despite playing to the final whistle.

He isn’t the only big name sidelined either, with Filipo Daugunu ruled out because of a lower limb injury.

Test playmaker Tom Lynagh returns to the starting side in one of five changes to the starting XV.

Lynagh returns to the No.10 jersey after coming off the bench last weekend. Harry McLaughlin-Phillips drops back to the bench.

The rising playmaker is one of two changes to the backline, with Tim Ryan returning to the side in the absence of Daugunu.

The three other changes are up front, with props Sef Fa’agase and Zane Nonggorr promoted ahead of Alex Hodgman and Jeffrey Toomaga-Allen, who drop back to the bench.

The final change sees Seru Uru return to the back-row, which sees Joe Brial move to the back of the scrum in the absence of Wilson.

The fixture will see captain Tate McDermott play his 100th match for the Reds.

“When you talk about what it means to be a Queensland Red and what it means to represent this squad, you look no further than Tate McDermott,” Reds head coach Les Kiss said.

“Beyond his leadership, it’s his commitment to the maroon jersey.”

The halfback isn’t the only one to bring up a milestone, with Test teammates Matt Faessler and Nonggorr playing their 50th matches

Kiss added that he was confident the Reds could deal with the absence of Wilson.

“We saw how Joe Brial stepped up in the backrow against the Chiefs with his best performance for the Reds and he will get to show his wares at No.8 against the Brumbies,” Kiss said.

Meanwhile, Stephen Larkham has made a couple of changes to his starting side as they look to consolidate themselves in the top six and take down Australia’s pace-setters.

In particular, Ryan Lonergan returns at halfback after being rested from his side’s home win over the Highlanders in round six.

The other change sees Tuaina Taii Tualima promoted to the starting side, with the former Rebels forward selected at No.8.The selection sees Rob Valetini move to blindside flanker and Tom Hooper shifted to the second-row to start alongside Nick Frost.

McDermott isn’t the only player to bring up 100 caps, with winger Andy Muirhead to also reach the milestone.

“Andy is a consummate professional who gives his all day in, day out for the Brumbies. He deserves recognition for reaching this milestone, it’s an incredible achievement,” Larkham said.

“He will come full circle this Saturday in reaching 100 caps in the place where he grew up and I’m sure he will have plenty of family and friends there cheering him on. The rest of the playing group will give their all to try to make it a memorable occasion for him.

“The bye week last week was welcomed, it’s given us a chance to recover and get our ducks in a row for the second half of the season. The Reds have been in good form in 2025 and we’re looking forward to taking them on.”
