Lancaster’s pitch clearly didn’t excite the panel. If it had, he would have surely got a lot of attention. (Note the assertion that he could see quick wins.) RA had the problem that Kiss wasn’t available for a quick switch, so then they had to wrangle Joe’s availability. All of that could have fallen over, but they couldn’t realistically tell Lancaster that they had a decision until it was cooked. Messy, but I can see how it unfolded.

'Should have let me know': 'Disappointed' coach condemns RA over Wallabies rejection - 'be honest and transparent'

Force were very solid in defence and have the best defensive line out of the oz teams. They looked a lot better when White started pushing the attack closer to the gain line. But overall the Ponies keep their shape under pressure most times and is the case controlled possession. If they can hang onto the slot, a home semi might give them enough to squeeze into the final.

Ikitau, Valetini step up to lead Brumbies into top two - but key injuries sour bonus point win over Force

Undertaker I reckon. He is good at burials.

Analysis: Lions' pressure point that gives Wallabies hope as Farrell goes all in on breakdown dominance

I prefer to wait for the final score.

Totally agree. And I’m hoping the trajectory continues.

Four Aussies face nervous wait ahead of Lions announcement, as English star firms for captaincy

Don’t get too excited. Oz teams are inconsistent so far in handling physical pressure. We certainly have a lot of improvement, but I’m still not sold on the package. We are light at 10 with NL out, having to think of unproven and very young options (or JOC etc). We have one proven WBs centre (and maybe JAS, though I’d tend to keep him on the wing). Three props are travelling well and TT isn’t. Wilson is injured and McReight isn’t yet back in form.

Hopefully Joe will wait until the last minute to select. Our teams have not been good under physical pressure recently – kiwi sides have hardened up as the season progressed. The forwards will be picked first and that should tell us which backs to go with. Clearly we only have one solid centre.

JOC faced the Lions 12 years ago. Now, Schmidt says the veteran Wallaby could be the missing piece of the puzzle

Does seem dull. Maybe they could try running into trams?

'I was sickened': The brutal new rugby-combat hybrid 'sport' where athletes risk their futures for a $20k wad of cash

Sofa: I made an observation based on what Geoff reported. (You might note the ‘if Geoff is right’ bit in my comment.) And I would not be slinging the Trumpetty stuff if I were you – I fear that you’re closer to his tactic than I am? If you aren’t careful you might make people think Qlders are paranoid.

The Wrap: As ever, parochialism in Australian rugby rears its head in battle over Kiss appointment

Yep. The subtle point Geoff makes is that in theory RA and QRU did what you’d expect but the delay etc was protracted because herbie went native (so to speak). My concern is that we need a cohesive RA to manage hard times. I had hoped we had got there.

Jumbo, you are starting to sound like a Liberal Party strategist.

The Wrap: As ever, parochialism in Australian rugby rears its head in battle over Kiss appointment

All true. However if Geoff is right, Herbie going feral is a very bad development. I was just starting to believe that we had a mature and sensible RA.

There were some big hits from both sides but the Ponies started and finished with a hard, focused intent. And while I can understand people getting excited about JAS, I cannot understand how commentators failed to see that all the Ponies came to rip the game away from the Tahs. Wright, Noah, ikitau- the whole pack – you could see it with every touch and all the action off the ball.

Tahs smashed by Brumbies despite Suaalii heroics as Larkham's men make Super statement

NZ teams are consistently better in applying pressure and physicality. While I think some of them are getting away with a bit at the breakdown it’s clear that Oz sides are not as well attuned to those key attributes. I worry that are very short of really strong midfield players. Aside from ikitau none of our centres is showing real confidence. Force had some poor handling at critical times and some poor decisions. No lack of effort but not the winning edge.

'Disappointing': Blues benefit from dodgy calls but Force hurt themselves to end frustrating New Zealand tour

It will keep the kids amused. Grown men shouting at the moon. Hilarious.

Who said sport and politics don't mix? Brumbies announce biggest 'election watch party' during Aussie derby

Why is this not an election issue?

'Going to be carnage': Lions fans in meltdown as ref accused of 'mind blowing' gaffe named for Wallabies Test

This is a serious question. I am also following the debate over whether rugby should be played with round balls to eliminate ‘unfair’ bounces.

Well I’d like to think we can get set for the lions. The RWC is way off. And it’s a lottery.

The brutal rankings reality that means Wallabies' World Cup campaign must start now - 'I'm a little bit intimidated'

My main concern is in getting the squad settled and allowing the coaches to work on cohesion. Realistically, the WBs have key positions to fill and deepen. Our most experienced 10 is going overseas and the next options are unproven. So I am wondering whether White-Donaldson might get up over McD-Lynagh? This is a big call either way. I’m not sure we have certainty on the front row, given that TT isn’t in form (though Bell, AAA and Slipper have been solid). Some of the young props are making good headway, but they’re mostly green – so maybe Tom Robertson’s form gets him into the mix. I fancy that the success of a few locks in stealing line outs (Swain-Williams, Frost) might settle that decision. The back row has ample choice. In the back, I mainly worry about the unsettled centre pairings. Is it Ikitau-JAS? If so, it should be committed and the depth options worked into the upcoming tour.

For a former headmaster EJ can be unintelligible at times. But it’s clear he doesn’t yet accept that his coaching term was a debacle. It’s very hard to take him seriously.

'It's a welfare sport': Eddie Jones on rugby's 'arrogance', 'cheap' Suaalii, 'sad' Brumbies and what must change

A lot of commentators miss this point. The WBs are in a rebuilding phase with a lot of young talent and not a lot of stable time together. Ideally the retention of Joe allows consolidating effects this year. Les should get a more settled squad.

'We're a bloody talented country': Why Schmidt's successor is unfazed by short 14-month World Cup runway

JS is sticking to his guns, which is good. Hopefully Tom Lynagh will continue to shape up for the 10 spot. It’s a pity that guys like Leota, Gleeson and Hooper will be out of the picture, given their improvement. But I do believe that building across the local competition must be the path to lasting gains.

'How do we get there?': Schmidt sweats on Taniela's form and career call, sends message to Noah after Japan move

The worrying thing is that Joe’s commitment to his family has been stretched. He’s clearly great for this WBs group, but I am not a fan of having people do jobs that conflict with family. We can only hope that the deal allows some sort of arrangement to keep family close. Harry’s thesis is largely reliant on relativities. Age, in particular. I’m not convinced. WBs have had a huge amount of disruption and little consistent selection – plus JS has been forced to trial a lot of players for depth. The coach needs to have a mature understanding of reality and a great group of assistants. Hopefully, the next few months will settle a playing group that carries over to Kiss.

A rookie coach for a home World Cup at 61? It might work for the Wallabies, but here's why it probably won't

That’s very generous of Joe. I hope he’s totally comfortable with this, but that seems unlikely.

Wallabies bombshell as Kiss to replace Schmidt in 2026 as part of 25-year first

Ideally. but the actual point is to allow defence to set. 😊
