Australia has a real chance to climb from 10th to sixth over the course of the 2024 Spring tour.
Rugby Australia (RA) has just released its 2023 Annual Report, posting a $9 million loss and revealing an equity of negative $13 million. Back…
As Rugby Australia considers the future of Australian rugby, it is worth reflecting on three critical challenges facing the game down under. 1. How…
Yeah Tahs got a lead early but made 205 tackles to 140, missed 24 tackles to 12 and lost 5 lineouts to 0. They just couldn’t get more ball.
Credit to them for still being in it for the full 80 min.
Waratahs' finals hopes all but over after Daugunu magic sets up late Reds win, Suaalii knocked out in sickening blow
That forward was interesting in that if they scored, it would have been brought back for a Tahs scrum near halfway.
But the knock on and head clash that followed ensured good field position for the Reds.

Yeah without considerable WR subsidies, it sounds like a money pit for RA and NZR. There would be high travel costs put on existing teams that are already struggling finacially, and I’m not sure it would drive significant new domestic crowds.
We need to build a sustainable model here rather than expanding to new countries.
Exclusive: Super Rugby considering USA expansion as World Rugby gets edgy over looming World Cup
If I’ve learnt anything this season, for the Tahs to look more competitive all they need to do is sign Ardie Savea.
The Wrap: As ever, parochialism in Australian rugby rears its head in battle over Kiss appointment
I’m also pretty happy with where things landed.
I will note article was about the RA board rather than QRU, and the legal obligation for Queensland appointments to the RA board is to RA.
As Geoff said, the position of Reds management was ‘not an unreasonable negotiating position.’

Yeah well improved on last week, and their defensive record would have looked even stronger if not for an opportunistic intercept from Gleeson.
With how Naholo busted through their wingers, I was expecting Suaalii to run at them wide all night but it didn’t happen nearly enough.
Tahs smashed by Brumbies despite Suaalii heroics as Larkham's men make Super statement
Statistically, only 2 NZ sides typically have a better than 50-50 record against NZ sides each year.
Which is consistent with the Brumbies’ typically sitting around top 3 on the ladder, ahead of NZ sides with a worse record vs NZ sides.
Tahs smashed by Brumbies despite Suaalii heroics as Larkham's men make Super statement
Looked a bit nervy at times but overall a promising start to the season.
Terita and Stewart looked good so hopefully will be back soon.
Wallaroos smash Fiji to start World Cup year in style - but injuries put 'dampener' on super win
I don’t quite get who they should have played, as they sit 3rd after playing all but Saders?
'Disappointing': Blues benefit from dodgy calls but Force hurt themselves to end frustrating New Zealand tour
I think this is more a reality than a goal.
I think we are back to the status quo of of the last decade with Saders winning, most NZ teams plus brumbies out in the semis and AU teams out in the quarters. Possibly switching the Brumbies for Reds.

I agree.
I don’t see it as bias, as much as having a feel for how flexible a ref will be at the breakdown, or tolerating defenders rushing before the ball is out.
Refs want to ‘let the game flow’ but they are tolerant in different ways, often to the detriment of the away side not having practiced how to exploit it.
'Going to be carnage': Lions fans in meltdown as ref accused of 'mind blowing' gaffe named for Wallabies Test
Agreed, semis (top 4) is a fair goal for an 8th ranked side at home.
A rookie coach for a home World Cup at 61? It might work for the Wallabies, but here's why it probably won't
Yeah good outcome.
It gives a shorter runway for Kiss into RWC but this Spring tour is so important for out RWC draw and will be boosted by not transitioning the coaching team midway through.
And another year to build with the Reds positions them well for 2026.
'Honour of a lifetime': Kiss confirmed as Wallabies coach-in-waiting for World Cup, Schmidt to stay onboard
Yeah I think Lolesio has slipped this year.
It was pragmatic for Schmidt to select him to start last year with BD on the bench to also cover 15, especially with TL injured for much of TRC.
But I think he sits behind them for Lions.
Reds combination knocking on the Wallabies' door, the other bolter to tame the Lions - five things
He’s passed 7 years in SR now so would be eligible for a 15% salary cap discount.
Moot point given RA control the Tahs but technically his ‘RA top-up’ would now be smaller than otherwise?
Wallabies star re-signs through to Rugby World Cup - but what does it mean for their rising young gun?
Yeah this is usually my starting point too.
If the passer is in front of the catcher it is likely backward, unless there is a visible change of pace after the pass. Many assess against field markings which, for better or worse, can be deceptive.
The Wrap: Rugby has made an uncomfortable bed with TMOs - now it's time to lie in it
I guess this is less an issue next year if there are only Stan matches.
The Wrap: Rugby has made an uncomfortable bed with TMOs - now it's time to lie in it
Yeah it definitely wasn’t the same defence as last week’s shut-out!
Brumbies' top two hopes dealt savage blow as Hurricanes steamroll Larkham's backline to snap losing streak
Well the Reds did beat the Blues last night…
But to your point, I agree this year the Brumbies are status quo (top 4ish) and Rebels players have pushed Reds and Tahs up to par with them. But all are still behind the top kiwi sides.
Brumbies' top two hopes dealt savage blow as Hurricanes steamroll Larkham's backline to snap losing streak
It was a great win but the backs were the stars, repeatedly holding the ball up over the line. The Blues were getting over the gainline for much of the night, with 77% of the match in the Red’s half.
Red’s did the ol’ rope-a-dope, letting the Blues tire themselves out swinging punches over the tryline for the first half. Then a few timed jabs from McDermott and Anderson and it was lights out!
Reds' stoic defence rattles Blues as Kiss' men get season back on track on the back of Lynagh double
Good for the RWC.
Interesting they are only signing him for 17 months. He will likely go post RWC, as RA tries to get back in black.

Apologies but we will have to agree to disagree that your factually incorrect post is a good foundation for you to base your argument.
Does state of RA's finances signal calm waters, or choppy seas ahead?
I agree rugby is in the entertainment business.
No other statement in your post is grounded in fact.

The point being, the current way it is officiated means if they get away with a forward pass during the build up, you watch hoping they get good field position but not score, so the TMO doesn’t call it back.
It is an odd viewing experience having officiating that creates an incentive for teams not to score.
