NRL, AFL and cricket tragic who supports the Raiders, Crows and the Australian cricket team. I've been following sport for over 50 years.

Some of them are going to be pretty stuffed by round 15 AJ. I know you don’t want to mess too much with a winning team but there might be a case for rotating some of the forwards. Mooney and Saulo are very capable but have hardly been used. I’m almost glad Horse had a rest due to concussion protocols. And maybe Asomoa could be promoted from the twos and give Savage a rest.
NRL Round 10 Talking Points: The best 15 minutes of 2025 ... and the Raider who'll be having 'nightmares for weeks'
Some absolute tipsters nightmares this week starting with Knights versus Eels. At least the Eels are trying – not sure about the Knights. They have some talent in their squad but some of them don’t appear to want to do the dirty work.

Such a contrast to the Warriors of old who were the entertainers but who lost as many as they won from their style of play.

He just needs to learn from his mistakes. The fact that he keeps making them makes me wonder if he is.

I was making the same point yesterday. The Raiders had been up for a while with travel and multiple come back wins – and extended the streak in the first half on Saturday – but when the Dogs upped the intensity they couldn’t match them. The Raiders were doing it almost too easily and at half time I was almost hoping we were just in front of just behind so they maintained their focus in the second half.

Paps just about punched the ball put of Weekes hands as well. Luckily Weekes was protecting the ball as he grounded it. Great effort from a fullback in an almost impossible situation.

Seb Kris might be having nightmares of Stephen Crighton running at him but he has a mate in Xavier Savage with 7 errors in the game – jeesh. Poor young Derby had a similar night for the Cowboys. Sav needs to protect the ball better in collisions.
Crighton is an absolute physical freak – must be 6 foot 4 or 5 and 110 kegs of athletic power. When he’s on I just don’t know who stops him. Teams are going to have to learn to gang tackle him. The Raiders contained him pretty well in the first half but when the Dog started shifting the ball quickly there was no stopping him. Must do a lot for the Dog’s morale to know they have a weapon like him in their team.

If you want to listen to what Tim has to say he has a weekly podcast called Raiders Review with his mate Blake who owns Landspeed records in Canberra and actor Matt Le Nevez – all Raiders tragics. You can find it on Spotify. Its all about how the Raiders are travelling and aimed more at supporters I guess but pretty illuminating and entertaining. I listen to it every week and get a few laughs. Tim would have had plenty to say about the head high tackle crackdown. Not sure why he has stopped contributing to The Roar. Probably too many other commitments.

So if Payten saw it after every kick off by the Panthers – why didn’t they alert the officials? Makes no sense.
Panthers facing sanction after trainer SPRUNG using underhanded tactic
Fair enough. Long way to go HY. Your blokes don’t look up to it against the Sharks at the moment. I think we may have underestimated the Sharks.

Great comment. We all went WTF and where did that come from when Ricky gave Salmon a spray. But when you dig deeper about what drove it all you can understand it.
Five and a Kick: 'Make the f--king right call!' Payten's blow-up, Dragons forget how to win, Jaeman needs to let grudge go
Its more complicated than that. There was personal history between Salmon and Stuart’s family going way back that triggered that “weak gutted dog” comment in his presser a couple of years ago.
Ricky let his emotions get the better of him then but good to see he moved on and didn’t bite yesterday.
Agree with the author that the fact that Salmon keeps dragging it up each time he scores a try for the Dogs against the Raiders is a poor reflection on him. Time for him to get over it.

True. I think we are very similar teams with our intensity but you cracked us in that second half. Crichton and Kikau just shredded us out wide. The Raiders have been up for a long time and have had a lot of travel to handle but it had to end sometime. They just couldn’t respond. I would have brought Sisagi and young Pattie on much earlier to try and make something happen. But we had very little possession or field position to put the Dogs under much pressure. Very disappointing for the big Raiders crowd that turned up. Good signs that the team is up there. I’ll be very disappointed if they don’t make top 4.

Still a long long way to go this season. The Dogs were dreadful in that first half and the Raiders could have had 6 tries such was their dominance. Credit to them to turn it around in the second half led by Crichton and Kikau. When they get momentum they are very hard to stop. I also suspect all the travel and second half comebacks in recent weeks finally caught up with the Raiders. Some of the defence out wide was concerning. And poor old Xavier Savage had a game he’d like to forget with 7 errors. I’ll cut them some slack though with a 7-3 start to the season.

Raiders are sitting 3rd with 7 wins and 3 losses and have travelled to Vegas, Darwin, Townsville, Gold Coast and Brisbane and have beaten the Storm, Warriors, Sharks, Broncos and you say they don’t have enough mongrel. Give me a break.

Thanks mate. Not looking so good this week – but you are right – I’ve been backing the Raiders and they’ve been good to me so far. Massive game this arvo. At least I can see I was on top of the Roar NRL tipping – for one week at least. 😁

Bunnies were looking pretty good at 3-1 after 4 rounds despite missing Murray, Latrell etc. When you get most of your players back I can see you challenging for the 8.

Of all the new Raider recruits maybe Tamale is the best. What a beast. Just loves taking hard dirty runs – the harder the better – and then he comes back for more – and has some footy skills to boot. He’s like a young Jordan Rapana. I wonder if he could play full back.
And that pass by Matty Nicholson to Kao Weekes to set up that 79th minute try was priceless. His former coach Sam Burgess would have been proud. This boy could be anything in the NRL.
NRL Magic Round Talking Points: Forget ninth, Tigers will definitely play finals this year
The Raiders are on an incredible run at the moment. Full of confidence – not relying on just a few to get them wins. Relatively injury free. I kept wondering whether to change my tip to the Storm just before the game – but in the end thought so many of the Raiders players were in such good form so why change?
The Storm started brilliantly with F’aalago and Paps on fire but in the end they shot themselves in the foot with their lack of discipline but the Raiders never gave in and never took a backward step. Should be an absolute cracker against the Dogs next Saturday – with a beautiful day forecast and a massive crowd expected.
The comp is wide open with so many teams in the hunt for a spot in the 8. The Dolphins and Broncos were really disappointing on the weekend. They were out enthused by the Roosters and Panthers. Of all the teams I’m really only counting out the Titans as being competitive week to week. I’m not sure what Des can do to get them up. They have some talent but there just aren’t enough hard nosed competitors in the team.

Yeah – not expecting DCE to leave the big smoke – just think its ironical that the Raiders are in need of an experienced half for a year or two.
If DCE hadn’t got his nose out of joint and stayed put with the Sea Eagles Jamal would still be with the Raiders I suspect.
Jamal Fogarty ends weeks of speculation with call on Raiders' future as Turbo eyes Origin return
A shame to see Jamal leave the Raiders. He has been excellent this season with his leadership and direction after a a couple of injury interrupted seasons. But given Ethan Sanders has been earmarked to be the long term 7 at the Raiders you would imagine a 1 or 2 year contract was the most the club could offer Jamal.
Respect to Ricky for not activating the one year deal on Jamal’s contract and by so doing allowing him to negotiate a longer term deal elsewhere. I’m sure Raiders supporters wish him all the best.
DCE’s future seems to have been forgotten in all this. I wonder where he will end up. Ironically the Raiders will be looking for an experienced half on a short term deal.

I think you can do better than “the ragtag bunch of Ricky Stuart’s rejects and toilers”. The Raiders are actually pretty exciting to watch this season compared to the grindball of recent seasons.
Just who exactly are the rejects? Weekes? Fogarty – who according to media reports has been offered $2.1 million by Manly? Smithies might be regarded as a toiler but can’t think of too many others. So that’s possibly 3 out of 17.
And the Dolphins were a bit better than half decent in the first half – they were pretty bloody good.
NRL Power Rankings: Round 8 - Naughty Dogs learn valuable lesson, Sharks spiral, Roosters reborn and pray for Dessie
The Panthers backline is a shell of what it used to be. They are badly missing To’o. His replacement Jenkins isn’t league standard. Young McLean makes too many mistakes and gives away too many penalties. Dylan Edwards is trying hard but has had injuries and has lost pace. Alomoti is solid and has had his moments. Tago lost form but has looked better in the past two weeks. As a collective they just don’t pose the same threat as they used to.
Five and a Kick: Premiers plummet to last after Turbo boosts Manly, desperate Des should drop Fifita as Cowboys cane Titans
How many Storm players are from Melbourne? And yet they are one pf the most successful clubs of the past 20 years. Sort of negates your point really.
