The focus has been on a men’s team in Canberra for a couple of years now but the money just isn’t there. The same goes for Tasmania, Wollongong and everywhere else in Australia. There hasn’t been a wealthy individual or group putting their hand up. As for being ineligible for the Asian Champions, Wellington have never been close. This season Auckland managed to do it. I would have no problem with three NZ teams being ineligible, it means the Aussie teams qualify.

Auckland FC are premiers - but is that a good thing for the A-League?

Would be a great addition but unfortunately they don’t have the cash.

As mentioned in the article: Pearman is going to Queens Park Rangers, Herrington to Colorado Rapids (same ownership as Arsenal) in the MLS, Paulson is on loan at Auckland from sister club Bournemouth. Aberdeen apparently interested in Milanovic. Segecic definitely leaving on a free transfer, which team not known yet. He was in Holland in 2023/24 and did get playing time.

Only 3078 people at the Western United v Adelaide United final. How have we got to this place where the team hosting a final are unable to sell out their small 5000 capacity stadium?!

Tonight’s final is being played at Tarneit. Western would have to make the Grand Final for the right to host another game at Tarneit and the APL would not hold it there.

I’m a big admirer of Teague.

At first glance I was like €50 million?! What?! But you’re not far off: £15.7 million for qualifying for the Champions League even if you then lose every game go out at the League phase, and £10.95 million for winning the Europa League. Works out to be over AUD$55 million.

I’ve forgotten, remind me again, what did he do to get Roar fans offside? Was it managing Victory?

Agree on Klimala. I think he over the whole season in terms of consistency he outperformed Lolley and Costa, and he was in contention for the Golden Boot.

Four A-League clubs: Adelaide, Western, City, & CCM all rated in the top 100 clubs worldwide for U-21 players match minutes.

The future is here: Four A-Leagues clubs rank inside top 100 on global list

Good comment Grem. Exciting attacking players, embarrassing defence. And yes, crowds should be at least 20,000.

Thanks Grem!

They’re saying the right things and making the right noises but will they actually follow through? Will anything actually be done?

According to AusFootHQ on X:
“Brisbane Roar’s owners are set to increase funding.
New coach Michael Valkanis is going to oversee a mass overhaul of the playing squad.”

Great article Hogie. I can understand the tyranny of distance in choosing not to play for Australia if you’re a young pro in Europe, but it is disappointing. There are a number of reasons why so many people want to see Popovic select young talent playing for the Socceroos, as fans we perhaps selfishly want to see that, but another potential issue is the impression it might give a young player in Europe with other options that there aren’t opportunities.

Hands off! A proven strategy to keep the Socceroos' overseas stars in green and gold

Crowd over 9000! Good call Josh. Apart from the good football being played and the on-field results, what is it that makes you feel WSW are slowly heading back in the right direction?

I know. Was being sarcastic 😊

Agree Talay should be sacked.

The A-League Men finals are here - and they're missing a huge name

Popovic and King were poor. De Jesus looked average. Shame Grant got injured. Agree that they were light on defensive players.

5-7K is a very big call. It was only a few weeks ago that WSW were getting total crowds of a similar number at Commbank. Fair weather fans much?

Surprisingly pessimistic crowd estimates from you NoMates!
