Once can be classified as a mistake, twice is a pattern, three times is a habit. This occurs when the first was dealt in-house by Port and Geelong. The second appears to have been again dealt with in-house by Essendon and Port, the third the AFL and media got wind off it. Don’t blame the dogs, blame the poor handling by Port, Geelong, and Essendon not alerting the AFL to priors, which could have nipped this behaviour in the bud.

Fair enough, I don’t think there is an answer to that problem. It’s unfixable in the short term I feel, but longer term, and I think say 5-10 years I feel will be better supported. Certainly the active crowd looked younger than normal on TV for the City v Sydney game if that’s any indicator

Corica, grace and charm. Great sarcasm there, bravo! By the way I’m a City fan and I do like my team and I think I’m liking them much more this year, it’s been refreshing to see the youngsters being given a go, and the wiser heads teaching them.

A-League finalists all have worthy championship narratives – except the club nobody likes

Bit miffed about a B for Melbourne City. I think they’ve done very well from what has been an injury interupted season to a majority of their players. I would think only a handful have played every game this year. But I can’t fault your comments, Beach has probably been the young standout. Best player probably Trewin, with Behich and Atkinson close second and third, they along with Beach are the only ones I think have played every game. Actually no Behich missed a couple due to Socceroos I think.

Well that’s interesting. JVS mate. Coaching record is’nt great. 45 games in charge at 24.44% win rate. With draws that improves to 44% so 56% losses. Been shown the door at AU as caretaker, City, Eupen in Belgium, Israel’s Hapoel Tel Aviv, Ajax caretaker 2 games, and Adana Demirspor in Turkey. At City had a 40% win rate and 47% with draws. He seemed out of his depth after taking on the job after JVS went home when his father died. Has he learnt anything since? We’ll see I suppose.

The A-League Men finals are here - and they're missing a huge name

I’d go Stanton if anyone, but from left field, I would look at the job Matricciani has done with City women in his first year

At one stage they seemed like they might be the ‘messiah’ but they’re both just naughty boys. I agree with Popovic strategy in this, if they can’t see that playing for Australia is a privilege than I’m not sure I actually want them to play with us. When it’s all said and done most of the players mentioned in the article have’nt gone onto or won’t go onto become world beaters. Just as good players who want to play for Australia

Hands off! A proven strategy to keep the Socceroos' overseas stars in green and gold

Well this morning Police have said no charges are being laid against May and Prestia, looks like they’re goping to be called up as witnesses only. Sounds like a beat up by Tom whatshisname again

Very thoughtful FIL. As a Victorian, it is with some pride that all the Victorian sides have got in the final six, and it could well be that the gaffers of all these teams have similar traits in their coaching as you allude to above. I wonder if Kisnorbo if he had stayed at Victory would have kept them in their, as PK I would consider to be somewhat like Corica and Talay.
As a City fan, I’m very happy and a little surprised with Viddy. He’s shown nouse, tactical skill, and instilled confidence in all his players, regardless of whether they are the young players playing their first season proper, the experienced Australian players, or the four Visas. Everyone seems to put in a shift and maybe that’s because Viddy has allowed them to enjoy their work on the park.

Shows the worth of having a balanced squad and not spending all your coin on attack. It will be interesting to see the composition of the A-League Team of the Year this year. Grem, I’m thinking from Sydney there’s probably only Segecic as a shoe in and who has been good all season, maybe Lolley, Costa, and Klimala but that’s probably a sign that SFC need to look at midfield and Defence and in the end mid table is where you would place them.

I’m not sure it’s particularly about a fast player in the defence on a high press, I think it’s more about having CBs that have the following:-
1. Good in the air, and win majority of headers
2. Good at positioning with or without the ball
3. Sound distribution of the ball and use of the keeper as a fallback if being pressed
4. Desperation. Willingness to put your body on the line and work very hard to beat your opponent even if slower paced
5. Good at reading when to actually dribble the ball forward and thus gaining some metres and out-positioning the high press
I have’nt seen a lot of Sydney this year as I don’t watch their games much, but the game against City I don’t think Popovic or King did much of any of those

Not sure all Talay’s fault. I don’t know who has final say on player’s but it staggers me that Sydney put all their Visas on front half players, apart from Sena who is a DM. Lolley, Costa, Klimala and Ouahim all front half players. I compare to City, which is much more balanced, two CBs in Souprayen and Ferreya, an AM Kuen, a winger Cohen, and have’nt used all 5 visas available. The other thing is that there’s not much steel in the midfield, especially against City on Saturday night. Careres, Kajira, and Segecic are all AM, creative types; none are DMs with good tackling games and a propensity to work hard. They need to move on a couple of those Visas definitely Ouahim and one of Costa, Lolley, Klimala (Segecic can easily replace one of them in a more forward position) and replace with a visa CB and a strong DM in my opinion.

A-League Tipping: Round 29 - Adelaide, Sydney biting fingernails as three sides grapple for second

City sent an email to ex-members a week back offering the last two home games free with a 2026 membership. They’re trying but I think it’s a bridge too far. With starting up again with local club vistitations, they need to tap into the south eastern Melbourne market with the kids bringing their parents along and this will be a long slow burn. The playing of academy players I think will also help with establishing a local identity. Meanwhile as you say they develop and sell players.

No probs big boy

AFL News: Oliver to miss after 'difficult week', Cornes blasts Clarko amid North boycott, Allen hits back at critics

Not arguing about North Melbourne, more concerned his comments at Sheezel, this is a lad who’s having a dip for a team which is pretty wretched. Should be getting a pat on the back for doing that. Simpkin was flying the flag as a captain. The week before Cornes was saying they did’nt show any pride in the jumper, this last game they show some and he still has a whinge. Do you see where I am coming from.

AFL News: Oliver to miss after 'difficult week', Cornes blasts Clarko amid North boycott, Allen hits back at critics

If we’re going to semantics, Like can be used as a ‘discourse particle’ and as this is a chat web-site, there appears no reason why it cannot be used in the written word as though we are discussing verbally. However, that’s being as supercilious as you were

AFL News: Oliver to miss after 'difficult week', Cornes blasts Clarko amid North boycott, Allen hits back at critics

Is Cornes like eight years old? Maybe take some ownership and deep reflection and start to moderate your comments and not be a hypocrite and changing your stance at a whim. The world is a whole different place if you give some pats on the back occasionally.

A smoky might be Kai Trewin to play DM by the way. Has been doing it for City for a few matches and was called up last set of matches

Socceroos suffer major Irvine blow as a young defender is set for a recall for key World Cup Qualifiers

Metcalfe off the bench for the last five games, so not much playing time, and ended up with two yellows in last game so probably a holiday off next match. I think it’s probably not ideal to select him, especially since St Pauli have been playing him as striker and RW rather than midfield. Luongo has only had 13 mins in last six matches so he’s a no too. Probably Devlin, Balard, or if A-Leagues I’d give Brimmer a go, or Mauk but mainly to shut up SS

And I think the brain bit is also very important, must have the mind in tune with carrying on into your mid 30s to get there. Sports psychiatry has also come a long way.

Too old, too good: 30 is the new 25 in modern footy - here's why

To be honest if you want a fair competition you have to start by playing every team twice home and away. That’s not going to happen unless you remove some teams.

The bad, the ugly and the simply inexcusable: The AFL's biggest disappointments of 2025

Australia has a problem that not many other nations have and that is distance between the capital cities, especially Perth and Adelaide and the NZ teams. If we need to look at leagues of different countries for comparison, there appear to be really only a few leagues which would fit comparisons in size. That is USA, Canada, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, India, China. Countries of significant size. I’ve previously mentioned the Russian league as a template, but any of the others would also be useful to look at how they go about their seasons.

Modelling the future A-League: How Australian football can look to Scotland for a more exciting and competitive product

Pure hypothetical anyway as Balta through his solicitor has advised that not contesting the sentence. So that’s that. I think quite a good sentence by the judge, certainly punishes him appropriately. Of course a Vic judge would have just given him a slap on the wrist, which makes Allan’s interference even more non-sensical

AFL News: Nash learns fate for Miers strike as Lethal calls for red cards, Scott defends Smith's antics, Bomber's headbutt ban

Not basic stuff, very complex Barb unless you’re a holier than though, black is black, white is white sort of individual, no grey, no thinking about the ramifications of your statement. So you are therefore saying that just because he pleads guilty that he will never be able to play football again., his employment mind you, That’s what you are saying Barb and that silly excuse of a premier we have. Even if he does’nt get gaol time he’s not allowed to do his job ever because he pleaded guilty. So when does your self justified ban stay to, just until his sentencing, now you look plain silly. Or are you condemning him for ever after?

'Concentrate on getting the state running well': Hardwick whacks Victorian Premier over Balta ban, rues undisciplined Suns

City just announced they signed a injury replacement goal keeper Dakota Ochsenham from FK Beograd in NPLSA. Apparently was on AU books for a couple of years but never played a game. SS might know a bit more about him but he’s going to be filthy that City pick up another South Australian
