Agree, jimmmy. A couple of wins will see them leapfrog a bunch of teams based on their better PD. And they do have the bye, Knights, Eels & Tigers next four rounds. But still, they are playing well below their best so far, and with Origin approaching, there will likely be more to worry them.

Turbo is obviously injured and shouldn’t be playing. Their pack is being walloped each week, so DCE isn’t interested, and Haumole tries hard but is one out. They will struggle to make the 8.

I think the Panthers form issue is a lot more complex than just the loss of more key players. After 5 long and tough seasons with minimal off season breaks, due to 5 years of finals & representative matches, plenty of the experienced players look tired (and some are carrying injuries) and they are not performing with the spark of previous premiership winning seasons. Cleary, Yeo, Martin & Edwards are not playing anywhere near their best. Throw in the youngsters coming though who are not up to NRL speed as yet, and hence the poor performances in general. Not sure they can turn it around to make the 8 ? Maybe a good long off season from September might be the best thing for them ?

Regarding the water on the synthetic ball, by the time a ball is kicked 50 metres through the air it would surely be dry by the time it got to a receiver ? I think the watering of the ball is more likely cleaning the muck of it, so the kicker doesn’t miskick it ?

Yep! Not sure that Ryles knows what he is doing with the pack ? He is searching for something that they might not have yet? I know he likes to share the lock role between Hopgood & Walker, but Hopgood is an 80 minute player just getting 40 minutes a game. Surely, he needs to be better utilised in the pack somewhere ? They need more attacking flair in their pack. Young Ryley Smith works tirelessly at 9. He has a good dummy half pass and tackles all day, but whether under instruction or not, rarely scampers out of the ruck. The other big issue they have is lack of metres out of defence. Their back 5 are ordinary there with only Lomax, when he returns, offering some metres at the back.

I think you are pretty harsh on Iongi. He is future star, in my opinion. Still only a baby, he is the Eels one dangerous attacking player. They just need to get him more ball. He dropped that “over the top” pass for a certain try in the first half that would have likely won the game for the Eels, but he had the speed to be there backing up Brown. Not sure Gutho would have been within cooee ?

He was one player who always troubled the Panthers pack in recent seasons. he featured in a number of defeats of the Panthers that I can recall. No doubting his talent. But seems attitude might have been an issue ?

Looks another good round ahead. My thoughts :
Eels – Home ground with Moses the difference.
Knights – just can’t consider the Titans in their current form
Brisbane – likely cricket score against an injury ravaged Souths
Raiders – their pack should dominate the Dogs missing half their pack.
Warriors – I think Metcalf & Erin Clark are controlling their game better each week
Panthers – trusting they have now sorted out their issues & To’o & Kenny are great ins this week.
Storm – not many away teams get out of AAMI park with the points. Tigers are improving but ….
Manly – a coin toss, but home ground with three Trbojevic’s on a Sunday arvo is pretty hard to ignore

The one thing these three all have in common is that they are all unfit ! Lack of work, by choice it seems, has limited their capacity for 80 minute footy.

I’m with you on this one, Baz. I also saw nothing but incidental contact and Preston trying to ensure no major damage would be done. And I agree that nothing would have come of the incident if Tino hadn’t have performed for the penalty. Very harsh decision, I felt.
