You have to respect Arteta for how well he’s managed to pick Arsenal up from their long slump of mediocrity, but like you said, it’s hard to see the Gunners take the next step with him as coach. And for the Inter vs Barca second leg, it could honestly be anything. I wonder if Inter will set up in the same low block or go after Barca a bit more given if you sit back against Flick’s team, eventually you’ll be broken through.

Gunners goners? Lewa to the rescue for Barcelona? Champions League semi-final second leg preview

Yeah, I think that is all it is – he needs a rest after such a long campaign last season. In my opinion, despite what Phil showed in his breakout year, he will find most joy in the future as someone who finishes the play and lets someone like Wirtz do all the build-up magic.

He probably will never be the ‘main guy’ for City, but as long as he is impacting games like we know he can, that mantle doesn’t matter.

From player of the year to passenger: City's Phil Foden conundrum

Spurs this time last year were sitting pretty on top so definitely too premature to say anything. We will find out a lot when Liverpool play City in a couple of weeks. For now, they’ve only beaten a transitional Chelsea side and managed an unconvincing draw against depleted Arsenal.

As Arsenal falter, are Liverpool the only side that can prevent City's fifth-straight EPL title?

Big watch on this talent as well.

Scintillating showing from in-demand Socceroo proves why Australian football can't afford to lose him

I mean Robertson is the third generation to have represented Australia in his bloodline. That surely is a big factor in his decision-making.

Yeah its weird how there’s a lot of mixed messaging going on when this is clearly a player you need and have expressed a clear want for.

Hopefully he chooses Australia and have a good chance to be the face of the future compared to if he chooses England and potentially waste away like the types of Tomori and Abraham.

In my opinion it’s different from examples like Volpato as Robertson has proper, meaningful connections to Australia. A senior debut already does help, but the situation is definitely still very much up in the air.

Combative, a good work ethic, and quality going forward. Exactly what the Socceroos need at left-back.

Bos reaping benefits of Popa's trust as rising star's trajectory excites

oh yeh I forgot he got the fastest yellow card ever haha

Bos reaping benefits of Popa's trust as rising star's trajectory excites

From what I’ve seen Kasey Bos is another exciting prospect for sure. He’s already firmly in the first-team environment at 20 which is good.

I expect Goodwin to start against Saudi. Honestly in my opinion Goodwin is the only one that can make Mitch Duke effective with his delivery.

Where we can get Japan is putting their relatively back three under pressure early on. Zion Suzuki is also a young keeper who could be susceptible to mistakes if the press is efficient. Endo and Morita are a good midfield pivot but I feel Morita can be exploited if we can get the powerful runners through the midfield like McGree. Overall, it should be an interesting contest.

Flawless Japan should shred Socceroos in WC qualifier - but Samurai Blue have a chink in their armour

Good to get the 3 points but still a lot to work on. Defence still looks a bit disjointed so Popa’s got a bit of thinking there. Expect a back 5 to start against the Japanese.

Yeah I agree, the main thing here is consistency for Cam

Rapid Rise for former Sydney FC youth product Cam Peupion who is vying for a regular Premier League first-team spot

Last season was pretty challenging for him going out to loan and coming back pretty fast, with no continuity. Going down to the lower tiers of English football can be tough, especially in a struggling side. This season looks promising but like always we have to wait and see for consistency.

It will be a pretty surreal moment when he steps out for the first time in Poland. Can’t wait!

To me that is an unfair comparison. Doku is arguably a world class winger and Robertson is basically just another City academy product to be moved on later down the line. The fact that Guardiola seemed to rate him is enough to justify the Australian hype for Robertson. It’s good that he’s making those important first steps from academy football to men’s football and will be interesting to follow what he does in the coming years.

Socceroo set for step up after signing deal to join Championship side Cardiff City

Yes, I agree and am in no way doubting Haaland’s quality. A big part of yesterday was due to the lack of service, with KDB and Bernardo absent for most of the game. Where you can be critical about him though is that his link-up play has to improve a lot. Many great big strikers have come before and all if they’re not scoring are at least linking up to make dangerous plays. It’s just we expect so much from the Norwegian now that these performances are inevitably going to be critiqued. However, with the emergence of Bobb and the signing of Savinho, he will get the quality service from out wide he lacked last season so there is no chance he does not score goals.

Yeah as long as he’s injury free and has his mind fixed on what he can control, there is no doubt that this kid can become one of Australia’s top players for the next decade.
