Sport can be the most wonderful thing in the world when the only thing that matters is the action and competition on the field...but far too often these days that's not the case - getting to the bottom of 'political agendas' is an unnecessary evil. Matt has covered many different sports at local, national and international levels since 2008 and was even involved in covering the Beijing Olympics. He cuts video clips for the Roar on a regular basis and contributes weekly columns.

One possible idea BG…
Media leaks aside, of course; umpires, ICC and the country (In MK’s case, Cricket Australia) work on the testing privately and confidentially, behind closed doors after being ‘reported’ ASAP. CA can select him, however, any game he plays in while he is being ‘tested’ is at the risk of the result being overturned, should a guilty verdict ever ‘need’ to be made public. A not guilty verdict means it goes away, of course, and no one outside those organisations is any the wiser (until the player, I guess with the blessing of country, decides to bring it up post-career to sell a book etc).
Or, alternatively, CA could choose if they are worried to ‘rest’ him (How many times have we heard of a player being just rested with no reason, and not asked questions?) – or am I too naive in the ability to keep secrets in 2025 with such nosey fans! 😛

'We're comfortable': AFL gives green light for Balta to play for Richmond before assault sentencing

It’s quite remarkable…and disappointing…when the club’s owner runs the franchise into the ground and can’t see he’s the problem. I too hope the plans fall apart and the A’s somehow stay in Oakland, but I fear the short-term sugar-hit cash injection from the Vegas move will be too enticing for the billionaire owner – and fan support and loyalty mean nothing!

Heading for a sad ending: The pending departure of the Athletics in Oakland is a black mark for Major League Baseball

It may not have come across on the TV coverage but the weather was tricky in SF – steady enough rain to affect the throw. It has been noted Purdy tried using gloves and some simple passes looked like they slipped out (GB even made two crucial interceptions themselves), so he didn’t handle the wet as he should have. Long-term weather for the weekend has no rain, so he should…should be improved – and I agree 49ers win the NFC, but I can’t see even Mahomes and Chiefs stopping Lamar and Ravens on current form – they deserve to be SB favourites – but Pat is a big game player and an upset is not off the cards! (Plus the NFL would love the hype of the Swift-Kelce buildup for the showpiece game! ha)
