I’d like to see Marnus converted back into some form at Test level, then thereafter discuss where he should bat.

Aussie selectors will be continuing comedy of errors if they convert Marnus into an opener

Kudos to Virat for inserting himself into active leadership on field during their last tour here when Rohit seemed all at sea.

110% 👍

This would be a shock?

Yeah I’ve watched the border close there a couple of times. It’s really funny, but the you can also see the underlying aggression in the border guards and between the interplay of both crowds on either side, which is quite real and pretty F-cked up

Pakistan Super League joins IPL in suspending games with Aussie stars to head home as military conflict intensifies

This thing needs a de-escalatory off-ramp.

Let the cricket boards operate independently of the politics and hold a 3 week tournament of a combined India/Pakistan XI v Rest-of the-world comp *right now*! If cricket can’t salvage the situation, nothing will!

The dumb thing is, Pakistan and India have so much more in common as partners in the global community, than they realise. But every time, their individual interactions get drawn so deep down into the weeds, neither side can see the trees for the forest.

Come together (as the peoples once were for centuries before Partition) and realise your combined global potential!

It’s a recreational drug use issue. Rabada has already had his working career interrupted because of it.

Does the instance of his using, influence how he performs against future opponents on the cricket field? No.

Just move on. It’s just not that big an issue.

The rest of it is just an opportunity to dive down rabbit holes to plant flags at one end of the extreme philosophical position, or the other end, to generate comment and hand wringing.

The blurring of professional domestic cricket and footy seasons occurred at least 20 years ago I’d say..

The two-headed Monster: Blurring of cricket and footy seasons will force fans to choose their poison

If Green had made that 174 – in the way he did it – in Australia, it would go down in Test folklore for years to come.

Webster’s had a good vein of form in a season late-ish in his career, but IMHO biased opinion, he’s no where near the batting quality of Green.

Green’s been elevated to #4 for Australia, and probably he is seen as being the longer term #3 / #4.

The ongoing issue re public discussion re Green’s position in the side seems to come back to the fact that Green is also a quality bowler; so he automatically gets “relegated” to being “only” an all-rounder, competing for the “one” all rounder spot in the Test side.

Green is one of the most technically correct, defensively correct, batsmen in the country, with the capacity to accelerate run scoring through classical stroke play, and then be able to step it up by sheer power hitting dominance.

‘Eight long months, very special’: Green blazes ton in comeback but retires hurt

Career averages are a useless metric in real time discussion.

Analysis of Green’s NZ-away performance at #4 (his most recent series before taking time off for surgery) vs Webster’s one-off against India (noting Webster’s subsequent series in Sri Lanka).

Green’s repeated batting dominance at FC level over the last 3 / 4 years, vs Webster’s late-coming, one-off FC season batting performance last summer.

I don’t see any close contest between the two.

‘Eight long months, very special’: Green blazes ton in comeback but retires hurt

Why is it assumed Green would be filling Webster’s spot? Green’s filling a top 6 batting spot.

Arise, Sir Jimmy: Anderson handed knighthood but still won't hang up his boots

Phillip Hughes’ death has no material relevance to Pukovski’s very obvious susceptibility to concussions which was documented year after year after year. Not sure why you would conflate these very separate circumstances.

I can’t think of another sportsperson in the last 15 years that has suffered so many concussions resulting in him/her subsequently being sidelined season after season, but then being put back out into the same environment only to incur the same brain injury again and again and again.

And finally, after umpteen “agains” the light bulb came on such that those supposedly in the know, eventually said “oh, maybe there’s an issue there and he should stop playing”.

The lack of awareness re management smacks of 1970s/1980s treatment of concussion – except this is the 2020s. The only thing I “trust” about how he was managed, is that it was done in a way that was about 30 years behind the times.

Exactly how many concussion (brain injury) time outs, year upon year, was enough?

Kudos well deserved? Really?

Pucovski's 'horrendous' toll from concussions forces early retirement - as surprise new pathway revealed

Sorry, but 100% disagree re kudos being due. He should not have been playing for the last few years.

His debut in 2020/2021 was already the subject of discussion re his repeated concussions. Why is kudos due for allowing him to incur – how many(?) – additional concussions 4 or 5 seasons thereafter?

Pucovski's 'horrendous' toll from concussions forces early retirement - as surprise new pathway revealed

All the specialist advice I have heard is that helmets make zero difference re concussion (any sport). They do however help negate skull-bone fractures, so in that regard, yes, helmets may have helped avoid Puc needing a metal plate or two in his head.

Pucovski's 'horrendous' toll from concussions forces early retirement - as surprise new pathway revealed

I think many of us armchair neurologists thought that Pucovski should have given the game up 2 or 3 seasons ago based on what we kept seeing.

That he was able to keep on going with getting hit in subsequent summers and to then hear about his most recent struggles after getting concussed not that long ago, indicates we still have a long way to go in terms of being proactive about concussion and stopping ongoing damage from occurring long after the risk was apparent.

Congrats South Australia. The best team across this years Shield comp and winning the final was a fitting conclusion.

AB Field. Good point. Who owns that?

No. Starting the footy season at this time of year would be ridiculous.

Maybe you’re getting confused with the ongoing European soccer leagues.

The Shield Final is always a bittersweet moment.

It signifies the end of the summer’s cricket season, before a two week break to the start of the winter footy season.

I’m a cynical realist.

Or a realistic cynic?

On a different note, where will QLD be playing it’s cricket once the GABBA is demolished? Will it be at the new stadium being built for the Olympics?

Or could domestic and international matches be played at two different venues similar to WACA/Perth Stadium in WA?

I guess because the WA cricket association actually owns the WACA ground, this presumably changes the financial dynamics of what happens in Brisbane. Playing domestic matches away from the new stadium probably opens up the flexibility for the new stadium to be used for other purposes such as outdoor music events etc.

I’m assuming Queensland Cricket pays a lease for the GABBA, so perhaps that $ amount becomes an influencing factor at to where QC bases itself. Presumably the leasing costs of the new stadium will be much higher than a smaller-tier suburban venue.

Great fightback from Queensland, but is South Australia’s to lose from here. Can’t see this QLD attack having the capabilities to work through the SA batting line up for under 270 on this day 4 pitch, unless the SA batters collectively make some poor decisions.

Definitely won’t be going into the fifth day.
