I’m a sports lover that grew up playing rugby union in rugby league territory and now live in Aussie rules heartland. Currently most of my sporting endeavours are limited to the confines of a pub.

Yeh panthers were wetting the ball before every kickoff not just during GP. No team bends the rules as much as they do.
Five and a Kick: 'Make the f--king right call!' Payten's blow-up, Dragons forget how to win, Jaeman needs to let grudge go
Give it another 12 months and I suspect Purdue will be on this list at either fullback, centre of 5/8.
Maroons never able to match NSW for Origin player depth ... and this star-studded rookie Blues team proves it
Piakura was in the squad last year ahead of Fifita and that was when Fifita was playing half decent so there’s no way he’s leapfrogged him this year. Even Coen Hess is probably more of a chance to make the team.

Australia has been running and aggressive immigration regime the past few years which although slowing is planned to still remain high for the next few years. A huge portion of this immigration is from the subcontinent so I can’t see the popularity of cricket declining here and it bodes well for the BBL over the next few decades.
Australia's stars reduced to mere onlookers at IPL as cricket's new world order takes shape
Harry Grant’s is on the comeback from a soft tissue injury so they won’t gamble in Game 1 and they’ll go with Hunt. If they were confident Grant could go they 80 then they’d probably consider Deardon for the bench. Cotter can also slot into hooker but you don’t want him playing the majority of the match there is Grant goes down injured.
Time for Maroons to move on from DCE with young blood needed to burst Blues bubble
You’re right Munster was ordinary last year.. 0 runs, 0 metres, 0 tackles, 0 kicks, no errors or missed tackles though.

There’s very few players that perform better in origin than they do in the NRL. Cleary has dominated the past 4 NRL finals series but been mediocre in State of Origin.
The crucial selection calls Daley must nail to have any hope of Origin redemption
Tom Dearden 177cm tall and 87kg with his full backpack on, puts every ounce he’s got into it and carving up what a player.
NRL Round 8 Talking Points: Keep binning ‘em till they stop hitting ‘em
How Fittler ever got a coaching gig is beyond me because his commentary often makes me think he needs to be sent for a HIA. The Haas & first Piakura head highs had no inkling of laying down, Hass didn’t even get put to ground and Piakura got up but was holding his jaw. As stated in the article the 3rd binning was for repeat offences.
Five and a Kick: Give that man a contract - Reynolds reigns in the wet as Broncos belt ill-disciplined Dogs in boilover
Will be interesting to see how the media rhetoric evolves around Luai throughout this season.
Ivan Cleary stated last year that the Panthers can’t/won’t offer him primary playmaker money and publicly questioned the amount being put on the table by the tigers.
The media view is generally Luai is a strong trainer, a winner, etc etc but if he’s not pulling his team to wins then not sure how long that line can last.
Having not played a game since last year, Moses thoroughly outplayed him yesterday in a team that has only won 1 game this year before yesterday.
I don’t know exact figures but I’m pretty sure Luai is on more money than Moses which is crazy.
NRL Round 7 Talking Points: The simple solution to Tigers' Galvin problem, and crackdown dies a predictable death
The RLPA aren’t going to help this situation. Their main aim is to push player earnings as high as possible so they won’t intervene on a system that’s inflating the value and length of deals. They’re the ones pushing for deals to be done well ahead of contracts ending so that players have time to plan their relocation, etc.
Galvin’s Tigers bombshell highlights the lunacy of NRL’s farcical player transfer system
He is the reigning Dally M prop of the year…
Round 6 Talking Points: Meet footy's most under-rated prop, and WA proves it's a must-have
I’d argue if he’d gone up to a female journalist and aggressively called her a f–king c–t the repercussions would be far worse. He’s probably lucky he’s done it to someone in the media who is a 300 game NRL player and more broadly viewed as being able to shrug it off.
'F--king c--t': Thurston breaks silence over sideline stoush with Leniu as 'snitch' dig at Bronco revealed
The Cowboys didn’t offer him a contract extension when he became a free agent at the end of 2023.. Roosters signed him last year for 2025 & 26 so ahh yeh not sure they’re the smarter club.
Round 6 Team Lists: Lomax's Origin hopes hit for six, Roosters star axed, Latrell's new role, Reynolds named, Talagi recalled
Fox is reporting 9 week NRL ban
NRL hands down lengthy ban for Mam with no All Stars loophole after court issues 'disgraceful slap on the wrist'
Interesting how much weight incumbency holds for players from this series. Deardon easily outplayed Moses, you’d expect Cleary would come back in and if Munster is fully fit then you can’t leave him out but also can’t drop Deardon.
Tonga, Samoa & NZ all have improvement left in them and Australia need some reinforcements in the forward pack to be back to full force, Haas & Tino coming back from injury will help.
Tommy guns: Dearden and Trbojevic fire up as boxing Kangaroos topple Tonga in heavyweight slugfest
I’d have more optimism being an Eels supporter knowing they’ve got a young g squad that can be together for a few years and build towards a premiership. I look at the dragons squad and think it’s a mid-table team at best which will decline over the next couple of seasons.
Done deal: Eels skipper defects to Dragons in big money move
They might get a 7 but won’t be Hunt quality, instead they’ve signed a fullback and a hooker when they’re already fairly solid in those positions. If they can’t get someone they’ll have the coaches son playing 7 & 6 and they’ll have egg on their face.
Done deal: Eels skipper defects to Dragons in big money move
The cowboys have a couple of young up and coming centres that they’re paying a quarter of Holmes wage so no need to continue forking out $850k for him
Done deal: Eels skipper defects to Dragons in big money move
Crazy how much injuries and the choice to play for other countries has depleted the kangaroos.
The players unavailable for selection/not picked would beat any team they pick out of this squad.
Here’s my unavailable 13:
1. Ponga
2. Holmes
3. Mitchell
4. S Chrighton
5. To’o
6. Munster
7. Cleary
8. Haas
9. Koroisau
10. Flegler
11. Fifita
12. Gilbert
13. Fa’asuamaleaui
Premiership star ruled out for Roos as Meninga swings axe to incumbent stars, ignores Ponga backflip with eye on future
The cowboys lost their starting winger early in the second half and moved a reserve front rower into right centre… they won the second half 18-2
NRL Finals Talking Points: Is it time to send the Sharks to Adelaide?
Purdue is the best player to come through NQ since Ponga. I think the Cows will play him in the centres though given they’ve let Holmes leave a year early. Next years centre pairing likely Laybut & Purdue. Drinky will stay at fulllback he’s on a long term deal.
Five and a Kick: Trindall too tricky as Sharks sink Cowboys to snap finals drought - but they'll be easy meat for Panthers
Not every ex-NRL player is hopeless. Drink, Ennis and Cam Smith all provide good technical analysis.
SBW wins the gold, silver and bronze for worlds worst commentator/presenter.
Why sideline interviews are so boring: Thurston clanger proves most old players are simply static with microphone
He was waiving bye bye to origin. With him joining the tigers next year he won’t be seen in sky blue ever again.
Five and a kick: Silly Billy selections backfire, Jurbo the sideline skipper and Luai stumbles at final hurdle
Nathan Cleary only has 6 try assistant for the year and ‘his’ team is sitting on 3 wins, 2 behind the tigers yet he’s not copping too much heat.
NRL Round 10 Talking Points: The best 15 minutes of 2025 ... and the Raider who'll be having 'nightmares for weeks'
