Done nothing wrong? In fact has played well

‘Eight long months, very special’: Green blazes ton in comeback but retires hurt

Tubby suggested moving Marnus to open with Khawaja, which doesn’t sound like a bad idea i suppose. Not like that isn’t asked before… if they want to squeeze Green back in. I can’t see how you drop Webster based on what he has done in the shield and other formats .

Sort of bs…. if they are asking him to sit out, say it. If he pulled out, i dont think he should have pulled out personally; but Ussie is a good guy and may well have a good reason.

Khawaja raises eyebrows after opting out of must-win Queensland Shield clash

I reckon Patterson could legit open also. Guy is always coming in early against a new ball

WA still a hope as Konstas falls cheaply, Boland gives Vics a sniff in crucial clash, Khawaja continues late-season surge

Patterson is again batting pretty well. He regularly comes in against the new ball (even from 3), he had a bad year last year but this year is doing great and has a decent solid head on his shoulders. We could do a lot worse

I have nothing but respect for this decision. Well done Steve Smith.

Yeah, Maxi really didn’t deliver

Familiar weakness cruels valiant Australia in tight Champions Trophy SF loss to India as bold gambles backfire

Both of Smith and Carey scored some good solid runs (both got out a smidge tobearly, and smithd was a bit of a shocker), but without a Head blinder we really lacked that batting fire power to push a total the indians would genuinely be troubled chasing. I feel like the selections were a bit off here – Johnson and Hardie perhaps were better calls with any of Inglis or Carey to open. It baffles me having Connolly open

Good. Move along

If Aus don’t win, I hope it’s NZ. Can’t abide an England win (with all the moralising and sanctimonious behaviour that i think would ensure)

Malcolm Conn: Fraser-McGurk all swat, no substance - Carey and Inglis must both play in underwhelming Champions Trophy

I worry about aus competing in this tournament and dont expect them to win this unfortunately, but I’d be interested to see if Inglis or Carey can succeed as an opener.

As long as England or India don’t win, i think i could be happy with the result.

Amazing is one word for it…

Also, I still don’t understand dwarshius’ selections.

Don’t get me started on Neser, dude is a champion. He deserved more test and other international chances.

Yeah, I dont understand the omissions of Phillipe and Webster from this… and I should renshaw based on current form.

Interesting, i dont know if Inglis or Carey should open alongside head…. Inglis has done it a bit in shorter formats, but not set the world on fire. I don’t recall Carey doing it in ODIs, but maybe in marsh?

Bazball is the new Teflon man… nothing seems to stick. They’ll claim some moral victory or “we play to entertain” if they are not putting the numbers on the board. It’s not like England don’t have talent tho.
Your question about Aus’ best 11 is valid. I really don’t know here. I know head, Smith, Carey are in it, along with Maxxy.. and on the bowling side, they have to have Ellis and Zampa, but otherwise I don’t have confidence the rest are all the best available options to be honest.

ICC Champions Trophy Mega Preview: Aussies in state of flux, India roll out big guns and England set to struggle

Marnus will play, I don’t think there is much doubt…for how long i don’t know.

ICC Champions Trophy Mega Preview: Aussies in state of flux, India roll out big guns and England set to struggle

On form, I’d have Carey coming in above labuschange right now from this 11…. but i doubt the selectors will move him.
The way short has looked, its hard to pick him so we are left with either Smith, Inglis, or JFM…. Smiths best numbers look to be at 3. JFM looks like he has lost the plot, so I suppose that leaves Inglis who has done the job before, but doesn’t have crazy good numbers there. He is a good batsmen, so hopefully he can deliver.
So, sort of agree, this looks like the “best 11”:
Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Steve Smith (captain), Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey (wk), Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Hardie, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Spencer Johnson

Agreed, can’t leave out ravindra if fit.
