The animosity in showdowns is from 100 years of history between the SA clubs in the SANFL. I don’t think SA people are trying to claim it as the biggest rivalry or anything, they just hate each other.

For supporters, especially us older ones, the Port Adelaide magpies jumper means everything. The players are representing the Williams family, Russell Ebert, Motley, Quinn, Cahill, Greg Phillips, Evans, Hodges and the whole area when they wear it.
Hopefully there is a response this week after the mauling at Ballarat.

Rioli didnt clip him in the head. An intentional-high contact strike is a minimum one game suspension. Rioli got a small fine. You can see in the replay and the still shot that he slaps Dale’s chest.
Agree about everything else though. Really Port should be giving him a suspension for the threats if the AFL won’t.

I get your point about Dale, but on this occasion he did instigate it by shoving Rioli in the chest.

The Suns are giving away 50% of their home ground advantage by playing in Darwin. It’s a bit like gather round in some ways. I would be backing the Dogs and Hawks in those games.

One bad loss doesn’t change the fact that Freo have a very good list. They do have a difficult month ahead of them though. When poor old Damian Drum was axed midway through the season, Fremantle didn’t even let him know.

You’re talking about two very different cultures. Fighting and hatred aren’t a factor at all in AFL state of origin games. The AFL wouldn’t try to manufacture anything along those lines.
