The more important point is to talk about those players that seriously contributed to the performance and not, the player that scored the intercept try. We are continuing to promote ‘super stars’ that do not seriously contribute over the 80 minutes and just providing a couple of highlights.
It is likely those influential players will come from the winning team.

We would look for the players that influence a games outcome, rather than those that appear in the highlights package. Tom Wright had a greater influence on the Brumbies/Waratah game outcome that JAS did, but the commentators only want to talk about JAS.
The commentators then want to shift Ikitau, who is a genuine game influencer at outside centre, to accommodate the ‘star’ and that isn’t a recipe for success.

Harry is a good and solid player but, not exceptional.
Cale adds real speed, coverage and sufficent size to make a big difference to the Brumbies performance irrespective of his number of games.
It is a pity that Cale has yet to get a long run of game time.

The Wrap: Brumbies claim Australian bragging rights - and angry Waratahs fans should chill out

Cale is a bigger out for the Brumbies than Wilson is to the Reds and Ikitau was almost out for the whole match.
No excuses apply.

He is going to need a very good forwards coach as his assistant.

The Wrap: Brumbies claim Australian bragging rights - and angry Waratahs fans should chill out

The Reds forwards want to play loose and not do the hard work in close. That will not work at international level.

The 3 best Aussie locks are Swain, Williams and Frost with Hooper developing.

And keep the play in the forwards where the Reds coheasion is poor. The Force forwards demonstrated this a couple of weeks ago.

Hiding behind a paywall is the last thing rugby needs. This is very bad for the future of rugby.

Wallabies win incentives included in $215m broadcast deal, Super Rugby FTA coverage up in the air

I don’t understand the ‘overwhelming’ clamour for Kiss to be the Wallabies coach as I do not see an emphasis on the setpiece that Garry notes. Their lineout was torn apart by the Force 2nd rowers on the weekend and their scrum only looks strong when the 2 NZ props are on.
Their open play attack is good from both the forwards and the backs as per the old Waratahs, but the forward structure isn’t anywhere near international standard.

Reds winning, but look like a rugby league team: Kiss will never reach the top until he learns beauty of penalties

Cory Toole positively turned the game for the Brumbies with the kick ahead deep into the corner. That was the game changer all done by himself on the fly.

Brumbies hang on against Highlanders in cliffhanger as veteran flyhalf steadies the ship

Fin true, but prop forwards are integral to successfully defending an attacking maul. The prop cannot join later, he has to bind strongly with the other forward immediately the lineout is lost for any chance of defending the maul.

That rolling maul was an inditement on the whole Waratah pack, but especially TT.

I would talk Charlie Cale up as his speed and the work around the park is exceptional compared to the other Australian backrowers.

Christy. What caught your eye with David Feliuai. I watched the game and meant to watch him closely, but got caught up in the forward battle. Tua is going to be difficult to replace, but imperative that the do replace him.
The brumbies, on paper, are a weakened player list from last year with the loss of Tua, Brown and Swain, but the team is better than the individuals, it seems.

Crieghton and Grealy were mistakes for the Reds to deem not required, as the backup 5/8 and full backs aren’t up to it.

The Force 2nd rowers were very good and credit to Marley Pearce as he is very young and was only penalised once against TT.

Those continuous penalties certainly kept the Force on the back foot and at least 2 were after the Tahs had stepped into touch without the lineman signalling.

Matt Touma spoke on the podcast recently that most Australian coaches pick their best team each week with almost no view of what the opposition brings. Matt believes that this is a weakness. This has certainly been so at the Waratahs for years.
Larkham has been excellent at picking the best team for the week ahead as well as gradually bringing developing players into the team, so that when they are to be relied on, they can believe that they can deliver.
This week, bringing Tom Hooper into the 6 position to counter the Blues power produced a much-improved performance from Tom. Meridith and Shaw were gradually built up a are now delivering at SR level.

Harry Potter is too good a player to be a winger and I see you have overcome this by picking him at full back. Has he played there for the force?

I am worried how Tom Hooper is developing. That charge ahead had no sidestep, no tackle avoidance, or potential for offload, just collision aka RL.
Harry Wilson was a bit like this early on and Tom should consider the changes HW made to take advantage of his power to the line.

The Wrap: Force to be reckoned with, Brumbies' foreign flaw - and an annoying appearance of 'reverse rugby'

At the time I did wonder if the Brumbies forwards could have stepped aside and let the player in possession through, to maybe breakup the ‘reverse rugby’ situation. Especially if they set Reimer back about 10 – 15 metres to attempt the steal if the player got isolated.
