I agree with you that Australia must improve it’s passing and ball retention….the question is who does Poppa trust to do that best? Geria’s presence tells me Poppa is first and foremost a “go with what you know” kind of thinker…
What I meant about Poppa in my first post was I’m sure he’d felt he got lucky with his set-up last night with the fact that Indo actually attempted to play positive possession and pressing football. Combine that with a bit of good play/fortune/finishing on the break and Australia had the best of it!

It was almost like Poppa enjoyed his team being pressed…..
The way the penalties fell was lucky for Australia but after that it was great to see the Aussie players at least attempting to throw Poppa’s shackles off and get forward quickly.
There is much that can be improved upon from tonight’s performance but the positive goal difference will be a large help to our direct qualification!….and goal-scoring confidence….
The ‘Roos have got a long way to go but tonight was a good step forward.

I’m not sure why I’m posting this but it’s funny you mention Teddy Whitten.
I was just talking to a friend earlier today about how devout Gary Ablett Snr is.
I know Gary Snr personally from when I lived next door to his Mum.
Before the Vic vs S.A. Origin game that Teddy Whitten made infamous with his, “..You stuck it right up ’em!..” celebratory ranting blah….in the change rooms in front of Teddy, Dermie and the rest of them…Gary Snr got down on his knees and prayed!
Years later, I asked him what had he been praying for….he replied, “For no-one to get seriously hurt in the game about to be played.”
Gary Snr has an enormous amount of faith and really loves his kids. Not a hint of crustiness. Not perfect but definitely not crusty.

I have a similar take on Man City this season to yourself.
When City’s first loss of the year came against Spurs, Pep looked much less than disappointed, much more than actively relieved! It truly looked like he was glad they had lost!!
You can call it whatever you want but it looks suss to me. Mind you a billion pending charges will make any organisation look dodgy!
