The Bombers weren’t great I’m afraid. They were lucky Sydney was diabolical for most of the game. The fact that the awful Swans almost pinched it at the end should temper any excitement amongst Bombers fans.

Footy Fix: They nearly pinched it, but the Swans are still in shambles - and the stats prove it's not just the injuries

Straight kicking has been a problem all season actually.

Yes the team has a lot of injuries this season. But this year’s team looks leaderless. I wonder whether the change in coach has come at the worst time. If they’d had a stable plying group they might have coped better.

On field they look like a rabble at the moment. Their two best players (Heeney and Warner) aren’t natural on-field leaders. Missing Gulden and Papley is a big deal, and not just their playing skills.

Has a manager ever been sacked after winning a tournament?

With the exception of Carlton, look at the percentages. CHB is correct.

He’s one win away from being in the Europa final. If they end up winning, I’m guessing he’d be the first coach to be fired for winning that competition, yes? In some ways…how very Spurs… 😂

Arrogance, self-belief, madness, delusion: How 'trophy' boast could haunt Ange if this is his last dance at Spurs

Is Postecoglou the fundamental problem at the club though? Not sure sacking him is going to solve anything.

Plenty of EPL managers would be happy reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League.

“ Arrogance, self-belief, madness, delusion”

Whichever word you choose, you can use that with high achievers in just about any industry that exists. It’s a big part of why they succeed. I don’t think Postecoglou is all that different.

My guess is he’ll be fired, but if I were in charge I’d give him one more season and hope he gets better luck with injuries.

Yep. As long as the NRL can say ‘we’re officially doing everything (realistically) we can to stamp out head knocks, they should be fine legally. If I were them I wouldn’t even be apologetic about it. Society is far too litigious these days to approach it any other way.

A football-style walk-out won't work in NRL, so how can fans be heard amid crackdown nonsense?

The complainers are missing the fundamental point – which is that the NRL (like every code actually) will (sooner or later) be hit with a lawsuit arguing a player has died due to institutional negligence around head injuries.

Football code administrators should be doing everything they can to ensure their sport does everything it reasonably can to protect players from head injuries. If that means a few old dinosaurs whine about the game being ‘ruined’ and ‘soft’, then so be it. Certainly won’t be the dinosaurs forking out to pay a giant class action payout…

I’m surprised the Swans aren’t ranked lower. That second half performance was unbelievably bad. If they maintain that sort of effort even the Eagles would fancy themselves against the Swans.

AFL Power Rankings: Blues rise FOUR spots... but are they in the top eight?

Weird how you’re predicting a “disaster” based on nothing but speculation…

Auckland FC are premiers - but is that a good thing for the A-League?

You’ve abused me plenty of times. Apparently because I have the temerity to recognize the A League isn’t perfect.

When did I “always stick up for my AFL mates”?

Auckland FC are premiers - but is that a good thing for the A-League?

No, Allianz Stadium’s ground has surprisingly poor drainage for a brand new, state-of-the-art stadium. Pretty much every code has complained about it so far.

Chris has a giant chip on his shoulder about the A League. No point trying use facts and reality with him. He descends into personal abuse very quickly.

Well, they did offer him a lot of money to re-sign!

NRL Judiciary: 'Absolutely farcical' - Panthers star banned for contentious shoulder charge, Titans duo pinged

Why?

NRL Judiciary: 'Absolutely farcical' - Panthers star banned for contentious shoulder charge, Titans duo pinged

The A League is easy to diagnose – far too many people involved are deluded as to where the sport sits in the Australian sporting landscape. Consequently the clubs are mostly playing in stadiums far too big for them, resulting in largely empty stands (terrible optics) and unsustainable costs.

I’m a firm believer in getting good administration in first, regardless of the code. Everything else flows from that. And there are only so many good quality sports administrators in this country. Even in the AFL and NRL there aren’t enough to run all those teams well, so it’s hardly surprising when the sports further down the pecking order aren’t in a position to pay for the quality administrators.

Why the most bonkers A-League season in years is about to get even better

I’m really disappointed to read about WU’s financial problems. They’re one of the few clubs who actually look like they have a long-term plan for the future.

Culturally Scotland and Australia are completely different when it comes to football. I find it bizarre that anyone would try to model Australia on a country that’s so different to us. Fairyland stuff.
