The nearly men: The best Test cricketers to never score a century or take a five-wicket haul
How about some recognition for the honest toilers, who never quite reach those dizzy heights, but somehow still make themselves useful enough.

Some 2nd tier talent at a good price might be worth investing in. Like Mozer from Brisbane and Trai Fuller from the Dolphins.
The Dolphins use of the Bromwich brothers to not so much win games, as set the tone for the club could be a model to follow. So maybe players like Tino, McInness, Fermor or Hosking would be worth investing in.

Great article. Other nominations from a QLD perspective would be Wally Lewis of course. Every sneaky trick in the book and loved all the attention. But he was taught them all by the master lair. “The Rat” Ross Strudwick. I remember one game where the opposition was taking a shot at penalty goal and Strudwick set himself under the goalposts with Lewis on his shoulders. The ref made them get down.
Was Alf a lair? Willie Mason? Benny Elias? Sam Thaiday? Basically any personality player could be considered a lair.
Justin Hodges would be another, but there is a fine line between Lair and Pest or even Grub.
Benji would try a flick pass with the line wide open for himself. 😂
Modesty is nothing to boast about: Nominations for Two-Bob Lair Hall of Fame now open
Basically green is guaranteed to come back. Rightly or wrongly Khawaja, Labuschagne, Smith and Head are locks. This means one of Inglis or Webster is out. Konstas was already out for Sri Lanka. But if you accept that Inglis was going to be dropped for Konstas, then sure. That still makes it one of Webster or Konstas to be dropped. Webster bowls and Green can’t. Plus Webster has been a very steady hand so far. Therefore Inglis/Konstas goes. That’s the thinking.
The alternate plan could have been to simply drop Labuschagne.
Aussie selectors will be continuing comedy of errors if they convert Marnus into an opener

Origin legend who came back from the ‘dead’
A horror car crash ripped his skull from his spine and his friends thought he was dead – but 10 years later Queensland Origin legend Dale Shearer is planning a return to the footy field.

I think both sides were pretty conservative tonight. They are in that position on the ladder where the fear of losing is very strong.

Who have not run a Top tier team in two decades. That’s my point. The Dolphins were one of the most successful teams in the Queensland competition, but still recognized they needed outside expertise to run an NRL club.

I’ve never really seen the benefit of involving North Sydney in this. Sure it gets some additional publicity in Sydney and placates a shrinking fan base whose team last played in the top tier 2 decades ago. But surely the potential downside risk of the team struggling for acceptance in the West outweighs these “benefits”?
Having said that, I’m excited that WA has finally got a team again. They were one of the most screwed over parties in the Super League peace deal. They had been starting to get some permancy about them.
My first year of truly following rugby league week in week out was in 1979. The Bears won two games that year.

I believe he has called Billy Slater from beyond the grave to let him know he’s fit and available if QLD need him. God bless you Rowdy Shearer.

If it’s in Moresby it will be a full house for sure. The one thing the PNG won’t have to worry about is local support.

Most in QLD support them as “not from NSW” as well as having their success built on a core of very talented QLD players that used to help us flog NSW in state of origin for about a decade.

The difference is that Queensland has no beef with Victoria. If the Lions had been a transplanted team from NSW it might not have worked.

Queenslanders are similar, but only in relation to NSW. And North QLD sees themselves as seperate from the south, even voted against Federation I believe and have floated splitting from south QLD more than once.
We are all a funny mob.

I agree. I’m not saying it won’t eventually work, it did for the Swans and Lions, but this makes it harder.

Based on the last few days I thought the team would be 15 Latrell’s, Turbo on a wing and somehow both Cleary and Moses at number 7.
