If they’re gonna suspend players for accidents like this
– only make it a week max (sinn misses a week for the accident, the tackler does too)
– player is still eligible for the brownlow
– player doesn’t miss a final (serves it in the H&A season).

Teammate blasts AFL with 'touch football' jab after Roo fails to overturn dangerous tackle ban at Tribunal

Yeah, fine to have an opinion on this but it doesn’t really need a novel written on it.

Daicos won’t be losing any sleep over it. Particularly on Anzac Day.

Footy Fix: Sidebottom was great - but Nick Daicos was robbed of the Anzac Medal

Na, they are a contender. Not the favourite but still a contender.

And not just because of the two games. Their team on paper, line by line, looks good, and noticeably better in the mids snd defence than last year. Because….

– They don’t have any injuries right now (thilthorpe only played 7 games last year, milera 3, rankine 15, Murray 13, worrell 9).
– they’ve added 4 players to the mid/fwd line through draft and trade, which also allows rankine more time in the middle (further bolstering that) and laird to go back (so in laird and milera they actually have two ball users back there).
– they’re getting natural progression from their young players, including fogarty, thilthorpe, curtin and the key defenders.
– Tex is still tex.

Two weeks of great footy doesn't suddenly make the Crows a premiership contender

They don’t have the players. Even if they had a full list to choose from.

Butters, rozee and Horne-Francis does not a team make.

Footy Fix: Don't overreact - Essendon are still bad, it's just Port were worse

No mention of the crows but they looked good.

Their forward line is arguably best in the league. The addition of Neal bullen frees up rankine for more midfield time.

Their midfield is better than last year. Dawson and Rankine the class, crouch and soligo stepping up, and then added depth with peatling, cumming and no. 4 draft pick Draper.

Their defence is young but has a good mix with the three tall blokes keeping butts out of the team and laird/milera the ball movers.

Only rd 1 but fans should have top 4 hopes.

Six Points: We need to talk about Vossy's coaching, and the REAL problem with Fox Footy's ginormous graphic

You’d think there’d be a solution here. Pretty poor by the afl/crows. Team for all south Australians eh?

AFL blocks push for Adelaide Oval to host Shield final despite 'extremely compelling case', Premier's plea

As you said, Richmond are going to be ‘early years GWS’ like.

You didn’t mention Rankine in the crows midfield. With him and Dawson in there, and a very dangerous forward line, my bet is it will be enough to make the 8, even with an inexperienced back line.

Not bullish on Melbourne making the 8 but never know. How often have two teams in the bottom 5 made the 8 the next year?

AFL Oracle: It's footy's golden rule - so who will be the bottom-five team to surge into September in 2025?

Really hard to see hogan not making the top 50. He led the league in contested marks and goals.
Zorko not making top 50 would have a more logical explanation than hogan.
But petracca didn’t play after rd 14 last year and is coming back from serious injury, so maybe he misses.

'Burning desire to lead the club': Hinkley makes call on future with Port succession plan in place

I think we’ll be mid table, perhaps even miss finals, so think the transition will go ok.

If we did make a GF though, I could see Ken not wanting to go.

Why coaching succession plan could prove to be risky for Port Adelaide

I’m not serious. Just an interesting coincidence to be reported after a Sri Lanka series.

Bit of payback for murali / Darryl hair?

Is this good or bad news for Joel? You’d think he’d be ecstatic but can he handle one more year of Ken?

Take the year off perhaps and come back refreshed on 2026.

'Burning desire to lead the club': Hinkley makes call on future with Port succession plan in place

He’s going to bowl the most threatening bowlers, which is why kuhnemann and Lyon bowled so much. It’s not that Murphy’s not good or got potential, it’s just the other two are better and spinners can bowl a lot of overs.
Murali averaged 32 overs across his career, these blokes didn’t average that this test. Kumble averaged 30 and warne 25. And here’s an intersting link to the most overs ever bowled in an innings.
Warne even bowled 70 in an innings once.
https://www.espncricinfo.com/records/most-balls-bowled-in-an-innings-283419
And when you see a pitch that looks like it’s gonna turn a lot and result in a low scoring game, you don’t really need 3 specialist spinners. Theyre not all gonna get a lot of overs.
I don’t think it would’ve been a bad call to pick Murphy, nor a bad call to pick an extra batter instead of him. Either were reasonable selections. It’s just when an ‘expert’ cricket journalist is baffled by the selection, even after Sri Lanka are bowled out in the 200s twice, it’s baffling, to me!

Aussies in a different league with late triple strike bringing outclassed Sri Lanka to their knees

It’s 2 tests. Then no more tests til June. And they’re spinners.
And Murphy bowled 17 overs in the 1st test. How many do you reckon he would’ve bowled here? More than the part timers combined?

Aussies in a different league with late triple strike bringing outclassed Sri Lanka to their knees

Well, no, his argument is that not having Murphy’s bowling is baffling and has backfired. Which is clearly not the case.
The selectors view for this test was that Murphy’s bowling is surplus to requirements given the state of the wicket, the number of right handers in the Sri Lankan team, and how sparingly used and ineffective Murphy was in the 1st test.
The Connolly vs mcsweeney vs Konstas selection as the extra batsman is not what he’s arguing. He’s saying none of them should’ve been picked ahead of Murphy. Which is an ok opinion, it’s just the non-selection of Murphy is not baffling, nor backfired.

Aussies in a different league with late triple strike bringing outclassed Sri Lanka to their knees

Yeah he’s doubling down on his backfire comment despite the state of the game.
The selection really isn’t baffling, even if he doesn’t agree with it. Connolly wasn’t picked primarily for his bowling. They wanted to bat deeper and have about 5 part time spinners in the team to cover a few overs on what was expected to be a raging turner.
Todd Murphy bowled 6 overs and 11 overs in the 1st test for a return of 1/85. The part timers this test have bowled 14 and 13 overs for a return of 2/101.
To pick a kid after 4 FC matches is a bit odd and they would’ve hoped for more runs from him, but they’ve seen a lot more of him than we have and we’ve not lost much in the bowling department to give him an opportunity. So to call the decision to go with an extra batter ‘baffling’ and a ‘backfire’ is baffling.

I could’ve played that shot too. They really should’ve picked me.

Smith and Carey ton up to put Aussies on top but Marnus spotlight intensifies after another failure

Well, with Steve smith in this type of form we don’t really need 11 players.

Could’ve picked me to sit in the sheds, not bat and bowl 3 overs, if they don’t mind a few misfields and dropped catches.

Smith and Carey ton up to put Aussies on top but Marnus spotlight intensifies after another failure

Where’s the next article from Paul Suttor saying at 3/330 our selection decisions backfired?

Smith and Carey ton up to put Aussies on top but Marnus spotlight intensifies after another failure

I actually think they’re doing a smart thing by rotating the younger players through the side and keeping the experience around them.

You don’t want six 20 yr olds with zero tests experience in the top 6 all at once. At least a few young blokes are getting a taste for it now, while we still try to win.

Selection gamble backfires as Aussies struggle to polish off Sri Lanka - with crumbling pitch a cause for concern

The media should try to not get carried away before crowing about our depth and not being able to fit players in the team. It’s a very small sample size for all the recent additions to the team.

2 tests for Konstas, 1 for Webster in which he actually had to do anything, and one for Inglis in which he came in at 4/400.

It’s all good signs but early days.

Their depth sounds pretty bad too then.

But this is an article about our depth, not theirs.

That 2nd xi actually highlights our lack of depth, it would get the bazzballing of all bazzballs.
