I don’t know about this. Moments before Harry sealed it the Blues missed a sitter running into goal.
The Saints missed an equally easy shot moments before that sitter.

I understand you have to write something, Tim, but these fantasy novels are getting a little silly now.

From my perspective, it was a good arm wrestle between two fairly equally matched teams.
One enjoys inside stopping power, the other doesn’t mind getting into a knife fight.

It’s great to see different game styles, instead of everyone playing all out attacking, free flowing beautiful football.

A very sincere apology from Rioli – written by the Power’s PR manager and signed off by the AFL’s legal department.

Job well done, boys.

AFL News: Rioli makes Showdown call as 'comical' aspect of threat alleged, Dillon sends 'unprofessional' reminder to clubs

One is an act outside of the AFL.
The other, directly within the AFL’s sphere of influence.

That’s the big difference here and one you have duly not pointed out, nor anyone else here.

Personally, I couldn’t care what Balta did. I really don’t. If the AFL wants to punish him for an act on his own time, then so be it.

However, the other I do have a problem with being an AFL fan. Remember, the AFL holds ALL contracts, not the clubs, so the AFL would want to be very careful when one of its employees is threatening another one, especially if Willie does act on it one day.

I’m not a lawyer but I recon that would be a big payout against the AFL should something like that pan out.

I’m sticking fat with your boys, Pete.
They came up against a very good team on their home deck. A lot of good teams are going to be beaten there this year.

Blues are solid on all three lines. Voss needs to harness it and get your boys playing consistent hard inside footy. It’s their strength. The rest should come. I like Carlton’s defence… most of the time, anyway.

Footy Fix: The Cats buried the Pies with four minutes of magic. Here's how Collingwood nearly beat them anyway

Roo was a beast. As an Adelaide boy, I can assure you he’s revered highly in our state. A stand is named after him at Adelaide Oval.
Hawks and Cats probably the greatest modern day rivalry.
Your boys bring the worst out in me, but that’s a mark of respect to the Hawks.
Franklin, Mitchell, Hodge… just to name a few. Some of the all-time greatest players and leaders. We are lucky as fans of these two great clubs.

Footy Fix: The Cats buried the Pies with four minutes of magic. Here's how Collingwood nearly beat them anyway

I think the Pies at the moment look like a team that doesn’t have any real weakness. The Cats behind the ball still look exposed at times. Last night, they were excellent.

However, both teams bring the best heat, along with the Bulldogs at present. Do that, and you’re always a chance.

Hawks I rate as well, but their pressure is a little all over the place. When they bring it, their outside game is lethal.

Tipping over the past 5 years has got harder and harder. Each team on their day can beat anyone, with the exception of 2 or 3 teams each year. The comp is so even.

You have to get those 50/50 games, or at least break even.
I remember a few years ago I couldn’t buy one on Thursday and Friday.

Interesting about his safety. He was asked about this a few weeks ago. He responded by saying that he feels safer go all in, with half-baked efforts resulting in injury.

It works for him — he’s a bull.

Footy Fix: The Cats buried the Pies with four minutes of magic. Here's how Collingwood nearly beat them anyway

Yep, trying to break it down into the last few minutes is not where the magic happened.

If I were Longmuir, I’d force every Freo player to watch that game…. twice, before turning up to work again on Monday.

Guts and pure work ethic from all 46 players last night — something Freo seriously lacks.
Talent will only ever get you so far.

I waited and waited and waited to see what Scott reported… hoping for same late mail. It didn’t come so I changed my tip at the last minute.

Ahh, well. I tipped the Blues more on gut last week. It was probably the right tip this week too.

I’m having a stinker of a round….. but I’ll take 0/9 in my tipping for that one win from the Cats. Truly special win.

Go Cats!

I see what you did there. Well played.

I didn’t, but hey…. I’ll take it.

Footy Fix: The Cats buried the Pies with four minutes of magic. Here's how Collingwood nearly beat them anyway

If that game is played 10 times, Pies win in 9/10 times. They played exceptionally well all night.

Cats won it not in the last 8 minutes, or nearly lost it in the final 2. They somehow stayed with the Pies in the 2nd and 3rd quarter. It was guts, will and determination – something a lot of more talented teams could learn from.

Considering the outs, especially
In the backline for the Cats, this is probably the greatest H&A victory I’ve seen from my boys. I rate the Pies that high and are the team to beat.

Finally, if that’s not one of the greatest halves of footy we have all seen from one man, then I don’t know what is. Danger will go down as an all-time
Giant of our game. It’s a privilege to watch him and he’ll cement himself in the history books when he surpasses The Little Master at the top of the leaderboard in total number of Brownlow votes this year.

What a player!

Ask Bailey Smith. He found that quite funny.

My only solid tip is the Dons v Kangas match may well be the worst Thursday night game this year.
Maybe the worst game of the year. It will be close.

All very good points.

Freo had themselves to blame, though. Fyfe was carrying too much muscle mass for his frame and looked more like a WWF superstar than an AFL player.

As for Darcy…. well the cheese burger, washed down with a VB diet just wasn’t helping his degenerative knee issue.

BTW — he looks fantastic this season, finally trimming down to what I’d consider a very good weight profile for his size. Hopefully he kills it this season.

Your boys look good, real good, Pete.

I think they’re playing the best style of footy with the most redundancy in defence. It’s really working well.

Toughen up Viney. No wonder your club is in such a hole.

I’m not a fan of Cornes, but jeez…. I hope he doesn’t change the way he reports just because North are having a sulk and boycotting an interview with Cornes, resulting in pressure from Channel 7 to lean on Cornes to change his way.

Soft as.

It’s not quite as simple as this article makes out.

Andrew Russell stepped down last year from Carlton’s High-Performance coach after six years at the helm. The Blues and possibly Freo had the worst injury list in the AFL during that time. Both clubs have mismanaged their players.

Listening to the commentary about Andrew Russell last year was interesting, too. Despite what others say, I don’t think he was the primary reason for their injuries, and I was shocked to hear that he had very little input in the rehab of injured players.

I always chuckle when I hear experts on here talking about how a team like Geelong or Collingwood will lack the ability to run out of games due to their ‘old’ list. It makes no sense to someone like me.

Peak endurance in athletes is between the late 20s to mid 30s.
Peak strength is around the late 20s to early 30s.

Peak power is where we see a decline in performance in the 30s. This squarely falls into the mid-20s range in most sports, but not all.

I agree that system football is king. Smarter players can fit multiple roles and be more flexible as they age.

Workload has also played a considerable role in longevity. Age is not kind to injury recovery, but if you can avoid injury (which is not always possible in contact sports), age becomes less of a factor.

Good article, nonetheless.

It’s not often I suggest a club take a decision to appeal, but I think this one should.
The last time I felt this way was when Viney went to appeal and won.

This is not a 3 week suspension. It’s not even a fine.
