Hey Stephen,
As a New South Welshman myself, I love the concept of an Opening Round for the engagement of footy here, but as I said, I just want footy back! The AFL have absolutely done the right thing to cancel the games for everyone’s safety and it simply isn’t their fault about the weather but many people in the media this week are calling it a ‘sign’ to return to traditionalism… and you can’t deny that a classic Blues v Tigers as a curtain raiser is a fantastic way to kick things off in the heart of Football’s Motherland.
As for the NRL, unfortunately the constant comparison is just the reality! Living in NSW, AFL is almost always frowned upon (although it is definitely getting better), but it’s an ongoing debate I don’t see ending anytime soon. Obviously, as a massive AFL fan, AFL stands the test of time and statistics show this, but a bit of healthy competition between the leagues is great to improve both games for fans and athletes!
Also would love to see a Rival Round! How good would that be 🙂
