A rugby game isn't a matter of life or death. It's much more important than that.

I feel like people describe a roster as stacked to then justify bagging them for under performing.
People love to bag Seibold so setting up the justification for it if Manly don’t kill it.

Mitchell also is a back that puts genuine fear in opposition teams. Both of what he can do, but also that he can physically hurt you and has the mongrel where he wants to do it.
I don’t think any other backs have the combination of both that he does. Plenty have the first but Mitchell is a level above with his aggression.

I reckon Mitchell is the most talented. But Turbo is nearly as talented with better work ethic.

Exactly BG.
How often do we see this from good coaches with a history of success?
I’d say never. Not with multiple players.

Queenslanders just don’t get Origin: A champion Maroons team from anywhere but the Sunshine State
😂 😂

I think the NSWRL just outsourcing their vetting to the same company that vets Liberal Party candidates

That’s very different to being recruited.
I suspect club rugby was an avenue to move, and at worst get a better paying job to send money home, and maybe crack rugby professionally.
Three Kiwis, two Aussies and ONE bolter named in Lions squad as coach snubs son for Wallabies tour
Looking at NSW it appears quite a few clerical errrors!
1. Phil Blake (London)
2. Ken Nagas (Bundaberg)
3. Chris Johns (Brisbane)
4. Steve Rogers (Gold Coast)
5. John Hopoate (Tonga)
6. Luke Keary (Ipswich)
7. Peter Sterling (Toowoomba)
8. Junior Paulo (Auckland)
9. Ben Elias (Lebanon)
10. James Tamouu (New Zealand)
11. Willie Mason (Auckland)

13. Ian Roberts (London)

And there’s also quite a few left over.

Akuila Uate (Fiji)
Hazem El Masri (Lebanon)

Steve Rogers was born on the Gold Coast and played his first case on the Gold Coast.
Seems to have been dubious from the start!
Queenslanders just don’t get Origin: A champion Maroons team from anywhere but the Sunshine State
Apologies I was incorrect.
Numerically and alphabetically, wasn’t it Steve Rogers the first selection actually?
Perhaps another clerical error?
Queenslanders just don’t get Origin: A champion Maroons team from anywhere but the Sunshine State
Unfortunately, in game one of the very first three-game Origin series in 1982, something strange happened that tainted the purity of Origin, something that you’d think that only Queensland’s shonky New Zealand-born Premier Joh Bjelke-Petersen could come up with – the Maroons picked a New South Welshman!
Actually wasn’t it the 1981 game where NSW picked Toowoomba born Peter Sterling?

The fact that he earned his spot, despite his colour (and the historic racism) is what’s relevant.
The fact no black player has been captain before is why it’s relevant.
You are just deciding what’s relevant in your mind.
It’s made up of players from England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland.
It’s also made up of players that are anglo, black, PI, etc.

He was 22 and we don’t even know if the Rebels offered him a contract for 2020 and beyond.
Three Kiwis, two Aussies and ONE bolter named in Lions squad as coach snubs son for Wallabies tour
He was 22 actually.
He left because after 4 seasons he wasn’t getting much opportunity.
McGahan and Wessels had very little interesting in playing him. When he got game time he played well, but he’d be dropped as soon as somebody else was fit again.

Daugunu didn’t move to Australia to play pro rugby.
He moved to play club rugby and work. He played for Wests, made the NRC team then got a Reds contract.

You don’t think there’s been a history of racism against black people in the UK also?
Three Kiwis, two Aussies and ONE bolter named in Lions squad as coach snubs son for Wallabies tour
Why are we mentioned somebody from a demographic that has been historically oppressed in the UK being the first person of that demographic to captain them?
Seriously.
Why mention he’s the third Englishman? They’re all Lions mate.

The suspected reasoning from the media makes no sense at all.
Its like some journo has speculated an absolutely stupid story, and then others are running with that stupid speculation as a story.
Maguire denies Mam omission due to Women In League Round clash: 'Ezra has to perform'
There has been speculation that he was left out of the first-grade squad because it is Women In League Round and it would have been a bad look for him to be returning when two of the people injured in the crash were a woman and her daughter, with the four-year-old girl suffering a broken hip in the accident.
This is the most ludicrous thing I ever heard.
This isn’t Taylan May, or one of the many other players who have been charged with DV or DV related offences.
This was an offence entirely unrelated to gender.

It’s nothing to do with the RLPA though.
It’s easier to replace one coach, than 30 players. Also coaches aren’t on the salary cap if they are still paying them.
I don’t think opportunity to clean out the player roster is an excuse. It was less than 12 months ago that Des was fighting to keep Fifita. Some of those supposedly under performing are who Des wanted to keep.

I agree it’s not really hands on.
The difference between good and average coaches, is good coaches aren’t only capable of coaching one game plan, and therefore take any group and can improve them. That may or not be ultimate success because not every playing group is equal.
NRL News: Des man walking after clause revealed, Smith fires Roosters parting shot, Maroons star switches allegiances
I read a comment in an article previously by one of Des’ media mates saying how Des was a great coach, but needed good attacking players to work successfully as that’s not his strength.
I feel like if good coaching just relies on having better players, perhaps somebody isn’t actually that good a coach.

Based on?
Realistically the bloke has had a single bad season.
Absolutely won’t go down as one of the coaching greats.
He has a career coaching win % of 48%. Based on performance so far that’s going to continue to get closer to 50%.
He’s no Bennett or Bellamy and will never be close. But seems to be around the Maquire and Stuart level and above some like AOB. Considering that he has never walked into a club in a strong position (e.g. Stuart at Easts) he’s done ok. Broncos were already on the slide when he took over and his dismal season was the COVID disrupted season the the Broncos struggled badly with the mid season implementation of 6 again and their roster not suiting it.
