The best clubs are the ones who don’t adopt this “proven premiership winner” dribble and instead employ the best coach they feel can win the premiership. If said coach has won a premiership in the past, then that should be considered more of a coincidence than anything else.
No coach is a “proven premiership winner” until they win one.
In fact, there is proof that employing “proven premiership winners” is actually a first class ticket to no success.
Consider that in the AFL era there are only two coaches who were “proven premiership winners” and won with a second club. Malthouse with the Pies after West Coast (but then nothing with Carlton after the Pies) and Leigh Matthews with Brisbane after Collingwood.
All the other “proven premiership winners” haven’t won another flag at another club.

The storm have a great following in Melbourne even from AFL people, because they are a Melbourne team.
No they are not. They are a compromise team from a war between two media barons and populated entirely by NSW and QLD players.

However, if you look at the comments made by other Perthites on the related articles over the past few weeks, none would agree with that position.
I think it’s fair enough to say you are more isolationalist than most WA residents, and that might be impacting your view on this a tad too much.

WA people just hate for the sake of it. It’s in their genetic coding.

The real winner today is the A-League and Perth Glory.
Lots of $$$ to be splashed on a substantially improved HBF park, and the A-League didn’t have to contribute a second of effort to it.

I wonder if this is the NRL’s long term plan all along?
Perth is a 5 year experiment to see whether there is a long term future.
But then after 5 years, not relocation per se, but expansion to the magic 20. Let the Bears “relocate” to Central Coast, and then rebadge the Perth team with something more appealing to the WA community.

If it was a WA team, I’d be absolutely behind it… as a relocated Sydney team, my care factor is zero.
But even if it was a WA team, it would be full of east coast players, so what difference does it really make?

Not sure what coaches have to do with this, SCG. Indeed, not even sure what him being captain has to do with anything. If anything, him being the captain probably gave him 15-20 tests more than he deserved. He was not a good test cricketer. Lets not suddenly look at him differently because he’s retired.
As a player, his recent test form was absolutely dire. His away record is David Warner bad…worse even. He was a walking wicket…in every sense of the phrase. His fitness is so poor he can barely get faster than a Sunday stroll.
Him being 38 and demonstrably unfit also wasn’t helping any cause he convince anyone that the runs would flow again…and certainly not outside India. The next WTC cycle kicks off with 5 away tests, you cannot have that anchor dragging you back.

On the first paragraph, true. But it’s not relevant (nor is it irrelevant).
On the second paragraph, that’s the whole point isn’t it. The AFL has the right to punish any player for any contractual breach in or out of the game.
As to the final point, unlikely the AFL would be held responsible at all, if they put in measures to mitigate future repeat actions. If they do nothing, a different story of course
Anyway, I largely agree with you. My gripe is more at the incomprehensible defence RT has given Balta over the past few weeks, including the now legally untrue “he was provoked” argument

That’s not because he can’t be charged with an offence. If those who he has threatened wanted to take action he very likely would be charged.

That’s not how it works. You break the law, you get charged if the DPP are inclined to proceed with it.

He’s an obvious recent example of someone suspended for outright thuggery in public. He also has a conviction against his name.
Rioli has done no violent act, and hasn’t even been charged. If he were to be suspended I would have said 1 week, at most. I presume you think higher.
Look at it in isolation.

You desperately need Alex Johnston back. That man is the most underappreciated winger of our time.
He scores buckets of tries not because he just happens to be the last man to get the ball by the wing, but because his positional play is unmatched. His runs are timed perfectly.
You are missing a minimum of 6 points a game when he is injured.
