Pssst. L Mitchell defenders…. He’s got form you know…
Five and a Kick: Munster defends Latrell as ban confirmed for high hit, Ponga not Origin level, dirty act Crichton must stop
One reason for the continued existance of the Goldies is that, for some wholly inexplicable reason, quite a lot of players prefer to live there rather than certain bits of Sydney…
Waiting for Goldo: If the Titans vanished, would anyone notice so why would Tino stick around?
Melb have proven themselves a top team over recent (and many) years. Dullbogs otoh have been spoon contenders for most of the past decade.
Five and a Kick: Roosters far from plucked, Broncos pretenders not contenders, Dragons show steely resolve, Titans a joke
Did V’Landys ever explain why he ditched the Two Ref system? It was a better option for avoiding the effect of a sole ref being biased (or bought). eg. The Tits in the first half last night.
Five and a Kick: Roosters far from plucked, Broncos pretenders not contenders, Dragons show steely resolve, Titans a joke
It’s a close call. I can’t decide which I’d prefer. Hair or ice…

“…the Storm and Bulldogs as the teams to beat.”
The Dullbogs may be 5-0, but let’s remember who they’ve played. St GI, Tits,Parra, Sharks & Knights. That’s not an impressive CV…

Oh that’s right. You’re a Sinney boy aren’t you Ben?
Naming the one-day cup after an Aussie great is a no-brainer - one player is the perfect choice
Damien Martyn who stole his test spot and had the most easy ride as the 6th batsman in an awesome Aussie team.
That’s a *very* odd thing to say given that poor old Marto was made the Official Scapegoat for Oz’s spectactular loss to RSA by 5 runs at the SCG in 1994, *despite* him totalling 65 for the match, which compared pretty well to local ‘greats’, MEW (18) & MAT (34). Dropped for more than six years was poor Marto.
Btw… You didn’t write Martos’ CI profile did you PeteB? It’s a seriously unbalanced and snide as your effort above. ” No contemporary cricketer, Tendulkar aside, made batting look so simple as Damien Martyn. But it was not always thus. For the brash 21-year-old who waltzed into the Australian team at Dean Jones’s expense, batting was an exercise in extravagance. To defend was to display weakness – a policy that backfired in 1993-94 when Martyn’s airy square-drive at a crucial moment in Sydney triggered a five-run defeat by South Africa and a six-year hitch to his own promising career. By the time Western Australia, wanting a pretty face to spearhead their marketing campaign, had made him captain at 23, Martyn looked a tormented man.”
So Martyn’s “…airy square-drive at a crucial moment in Sydney triggered a five-run defeat by South Africa…”. It wasn’t the top sixes 2nd innings of;
Mark Taylor ….. 27
Michael Slater … 1
David Boon ……..24
Tim May ………… 0
Mark Waugh …… 11
Allan Border ……. 7
that had anything to do with the loss. Nope. It was alllll Martos’ fault. And even more outrageously, this “crucial moment” that “triggered a five run defeat” was Marto’s dismissal, the *NINTH* of the innings, out for 6, with that same number being the runs required to win. This is a stunningly bad bit of reporting by CI, I’m actually a trifle amazed that DM hasn’t had a piece of CricInfo for its gross misrepresentation.
Incidentally, this hopeless choker Martyn finished his Test career with a batting average about 4.5 higher than a certain contempory who is still invariably labelled as an ATG, Legend, Superstar etc. Dennis knows how many Test runs Marto would have scored if he’d been given this players chances.

it has to be a cult hero.
I.M. Chappell has a case then. Him being the first to point out that the opposition bowlers weren’t actually trying to get batters out. (Remember his re-positioning of off-stick?)

Jones should be a clear winner with Bevan a distant second.
Iyo. As a complete ODI player, I’d opine that Deano was about two divisions below Roy.
SR of 72.6 v 92.4. Wickets 3 v 133, and absolutely no comparison between them as fielders.
Not that any of those cold, hard stats will be of any relevance if the method you mention is going to be used. “Most” will *always favour* NSW & Vic.
Oh btw, MGB (who I knew well personally) being a “proven match-winner” is a manufactured myth.

But tbf SCG, there is quite a bit of ‘A’ cricket these days.
Konstas craving: Why teenage batting tyro needs to be nurtured not rushed into Test team
Ahhhh. This old one…. Oz selectors pick ‘our’ teams in the same manner that newspaper editors choose which candidate their paper is going to support for high office.
And the winner of todays bucket of KFC (Kostas Fluff Competition)! “He [Kostas] brought up his half-century off Lloyd Pope in the 37th over with a four that rushed past extra cover so fast that Jordan Buckingham needed to jump to avoid the fence as he chased the ball past the boundary.” Umm. If he hit it “so fast” why then did extra cover chase it to the fence? Bit of extra sprint training was it? Well done nameless scribe AAP. You win!
Konstas craving: Why teenage batting tyro needs to be nurtured not rushed into Test team
Huzzah! A voice of sanity. I recall Jason Sangha being touted as one of The Next Big thing by no less than that well-known centre of cricket knowledge, the ABC TV 7:30 *national* show, the very evening that he and fellow NSW teen (and NBT) got their first Shield 100s on that infamous batters graveyard at NSO. And as the author reminds us, neither of that pair have gone anywhere near a BG, which is no small feat for a True Blue.
Whoever coined the saying that, “When NSW give their players their first Blue cap, they give ’em a BG in a paper bag at the same time.” nailed it. (Note: It wasn’t originated by David Hookes).
And incidentally, while Kostas was described by a SMH journo as a “mainstay” of the Oz U19 WC winning side, he managed 14 & 0 in the semi and final respectively.
Anyway, thanks for your bit of perspective Rob. It makes a pleasing change.

… his bowling is preferable to Abbott.
Yairsss. I pointed out that SA has yet to take a wicket in the current ODI series, but apu, mods tend to block my posts which aren’t hallelujahing a NSW player.
Aside… I notice that the CI bowling stats for this series don’t list bowlers who haven’t taken a wicket. Poor effort that.
Aussie disaster: Cameron Green's Test summer in doubt with back injury
If NASs’ ‘high shot’ was worth ten in the bin then May and Suaalaii should have gotten life bans for their asassination attempts on Walsh earlier this season.
Five and a Kick: Papi sizzles as Storm roll Roosters but Nelson’s grand final hopes hang on judiciary after high shot
He’s got more of a future as a letter opener than he has as a leg opener…
Aussie disaster: Cameron Green's Test summer in doubt with back injury
I think we’re likely to see “terrifyingly good” teams when the authors gets down to NSW & Victoria
Yep, AME Roberts & Imran Khan would be a pretty scary Blues new ball pair…
And try as I might, I can’t recall a “terrifying” hairy quick from Victoria *ever*. Certainly not since the advent of colour tv in this coutry. They’ve had an excellent production line of FMs, but scary quicks? Nope, can’t think of one.
Cricket's State of Origin: Queensland's all-time XI is terrifyingly good
I don’t think Steve Waugh had anything to do with Law not being selected more often…
If SRW could unilaterally ignore the other two tour selectors, *and* against the advice of the recently retired AB, drop the living legend Warnie then I doubt he’d have any qualms not selecting someone for their second Test.
And to this cynic, the only difference between MAT & SRW, is their batting stance.
Cricket's State of Origin: Queensland's all-time XI is terrifyingly good
Def SGL. Just for his captaincy and sledging alone.

You make no logical sense,
In the words of Julia Gillard… “I will *not* be told that by someone who spells Jimmy with three Ms”.
NRL Round 25 Talking Points: More high shot cowardice from the NRL, Panthers slip up, Broncos somehow still in the hunt
says a lot about the culture of the club and the city of Canberra that slowly seeps into your blood without you even knowing it.
It’s called ‘hypothermia’ Geoff.
NRL Round 25 Talking Points: More high shot cowardice from the NRL, Panthers slip up, Broncos somehow still in the hunt
Look I don’t like the bunker either and I like the Captains challenge even less.
Well that’s just silly. People always seem to miss one of the three main befefits of the Bunker and the CC. The first two are obvious; 1. Get the decision right. 2. Give the TV rights owners more live air time, but the third one seems to get lost. 3. Significantly reduce the chances of corrupt reffing. Unless of course you want repeat performances of the help that M-W got in their winning/buying of the 1978 flag.
A small core of bunker officials who are good at their job.
Nahhh. Lets get AI to do it! Shouldn’t take long to assemble a few hundred video clips.
NRL Round 25 Talking Points: More high shot cowardice from the NRL, Panthers slip up, Broncos somehow still in the hunt
Yep, the NRL clearly has a set against M-W. That’s why Les Boyd, Cliff Lyons, Arko & Quayle are in the HoF…
Five and a Kick: Impostor Broncos keep finals hopes alive, refs 'don't know what they're doing' as lucky Dogs sink Warriors
sheek,
Thanks for the attempt, but I remain firmly unconvinced. Making HoFs out of amateurs who played in a Sydney suburban comp over a century ago makes a farce of the integrity of the program.

“Maroons never able to match NSW for Origin player depth … and this star-studded rookie Blues team proves it”
Errr… Hypotheticals can never “prove” anything. I recall that back in 1982 all those Sinney pundits were braying that SoO wouldn’t last because NSW would be unbeatable. How’d that work out?
Aside: Has there ever been a NSW team that *wasn’t* “star-studded”?
